1) I have 45 credits
2) I'm browsing the Custom Shop desktop application. I want to buy one of the T-Racks Classic plugins which is 50 credits. I'm 5 credits short.
3) This weekend there is a 20% off sale, so the plugin should be 50 credits - 20% = 40 credits.
4) So the plugin costs 40 credits during the sale. I have 45 credits... I'm good to go, right?

Short answer: NO.

Long answer: When I click on 'Buy' it says... I don't have enough credits! But I don't want to buy it at 50 credits, I want to apply the discount and buy it at 40 credits.

So even though I have 45 credits available for a 40 credit plugin... I can't buy it. I basically have to pay full price for the plugin because I can only apply the disount coupon AFTER buying MORE credits.

I should note that the MINIMUM credit purchase is 25 (25 Euro), so I'm screwed.

What options do I have? This thing is so, so broken.
The 20% off is by using a coupon code and per the promotion page at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/news.php?id=684
Other promotional offers or discounts such as Custom Shop Gear Credits or JamPoints cannot be combined with the coupon code.
I will relay your experience and thoughts on this, thank you.
See Peter this is precisely one of the things i mentioned here :http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 3#p6468513

I was following your threads and replies on this forum regarding this because i wanted to know will this nonsense end sometime in the future and it seems to me that you always just pass "experiences" to someone else at your company and they are being lost after that.

There was a funny buzz back then and it was something like: STFU and just take my money - but i believe someone from your company didn't hear for this.

I keep seeing the "You can't use jam points and gear credits together" rule posted, so I think the following bears repeating, for those who might not know it...

You can use your jam points toward purchasing gear credits, so it basically amounts to the same thing. Of course, the downside is that you can't buy specific amounts of gear credits (ie. just what you need for a purchase), but the leftover credits will stay in your account until you need them again.

The post you quote was very specifically about a promotion (that ends today, for those interested: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/news.php?id=684 ), the user who asked was assisted and is now clear about the promotion (I have verification of this via direct PM communication), and I do indeed pass along user experiences to the team and they are assessed along with any other market data presented about the purchasing experience. I am sorry that you feel your specific needs are not being addressed.

kmonkey, FWIW i've said it before, and i'll say it again.

you're trying to think of Gear Credits (the "custom shop currency") in the wrong way. it's not "money". there's no money equivalent to a Gear Credit. essentially, it's a piecemeal volume discount mechanism.

a single gear credit in the largest credit pack is half as expensive as the gear credit in the smallest pack. that means, if you buy anything with credits from largest credit pack, you're essentially always getting a 50% discount (i.e. you spend 100 credits, but only "pay" for 50 credits). considering these credit packs can also be on a 50% sale, getting the largest credit pack on sale will essentially give you a 75% discount on anything you buy with those credits. considering sometimes stuff is on sale with credits as well (e.g. gear sold for 50 credits that usually costs 100 credits), you're approaching Crysonic levels of discounts.

case in point - i've bought a 1500 credit pack at a 50% sale some time last year (or was it 2014?). since then i've purchased lots of T-Racks stuff, lots of Amplitube 3 stuff, Amplitube Mesa, and Amplitube 4. not sure about SampleTank 3 upgrade, but maybe even that too! all of that without spending a single dime in IK shop, for more than a year now. if i paid in cash for those, even factoring in JamPoints and whatnot, all of that would've cost me way more than what i spent on that credit pack, and i still have enough credits to buy Amplitube 4 five times over - so i bought all of this stuff and i'm still not done, i'll be getting even more gear at what essentially amounts to minimum 75% discount (more if stuff is on sale).

yes, the catch is NFR, but i willingly take that risk, and demo stuff extensively before buying (well, Amplitube 4 was the exception, but after Amplitube Mesa i had no doubts that the new Marshalls alone would be worth it).

so please, let go of the notion of Gear Credits being "money". they're not. there's no "value" associated with a single credit - you can't say buying in credits is cheaper/more expensive than buying with real money, because that depends on where did you get the credits from. the credits are volume discount. you pay money up front, and then you get stuff you like, cheaper than what you would've paid in real money (in exchange for it being NFR, and in exchange for possibly buying much more than you need right now, in hopes of it becoming more useful later). the level of your discount depends on how many credits you're buying.

I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

On the topic of the plugin itself, we have more than just the loops example in that video series -

Which are your favorite MODES Den ??

cheers
Tape 2, MSTR+6...these two in the first place.
Finally installed the demo.
I like both those MODES too.

BUT this plugin REALLY needs a wet/dry mix control.

It acts like a compressor/limiter even without the Brickwall Limiter on.

Using it on the stereo buss without a wet/dry mix control is dangerous IMHO.
It knocks about 4 or 5 db of volume off.

In the real situation real mixer or tape will do the same. Compress-limit.
You can put the gain plugin after the Sat X to boost the lost dB however..

In the real analogue studio there is no 10% of tape or Mix/Dry fader... Only in digital world you have these details.

Yeah all true Den, but I'm living in the digital world :)

I've used it much more on individual tracks now and the lack of a wet/dry control isn't such a big issue for me when used like that.

The level reduction varies quite a lot between modes so it isn't easy to quickly A B test different modes on the same source.

I think the wet/dry control would be VERY handy for use on the stereo bus.

I must be spoilt by all the other plugins I use that have this feature in this digital age !

Anyway, it's a great plugin and I've purchased it and look forward to any improvements in the future.

It can be very creamy. :tu:

Hard to tell... got any examples?

Saturator-X was €96 with VAT and it still is. Having said that, looking over all the T-Racks plugins, I do have to say that they are blooming expensive! Thank goodness I got loads of them when they did their BOGOF (or as it transpired, Buy One Get Four Free) and cheap bundles a couple of years ago.
A bit fried in the higher freqs
