Hilarious. Zero-G started by selling pirated samples and people are losing their minds over ancient $10 sample packs nobody was buying anyway. Who knows, maybe this will re-ignite Jungle for the 2020s.

Well said, Jon. Got that Omnisphere 2 bank too, it’s a good soundset.
Meanwhile someone silently left the building.

Probably me because I'm a pirate and am underhanded and sneaky like that. Besides, I have more crimes to go commit.

Not you, of course. I meant Ryan99.
He got his coat and left the building ;)

Anyway, soundbylaura, he should apologize for calling you a thief.
Definitely not cricket.

My pleasure. I think about the things that get shared here and over at VI-Control and am appreciative. I have learned much about music, production, composing, orchestration...and I have gotten deals...deals I would never have known about were it not for these forums, and the many great people who visit and comment here.

No one is losing sleep at Zero-G. They had a lot of folks hit their site. A lot of those folks may have actually purchased things they did not know about. It really was a win/win situation that they corralled back in once the cat got loose.

And I think we all get a little self righteous every now and then. As long as we can corral that back in, then we can continue in what I feel is a win/win situation.

But I am a hopeless optimist, so...ha!

Don’t worry, there’s a lot of people ready to screw when an occasion appears. That’s a perfect example of digital stealing.
Digital stealing? They released a code. I used the code. They didn't say "don't use the code for more than one thing" or send an email saying it was a mistake. I had no reason to think that's not what they intended. It's not like there's no such thing as multiple-use codes. Sheesh.
Yeah, right. I can see telling the judge: « Well, you know, the bank forgot to lock the door and put the alarm on, so I thought maybe they wouldn’t mind if I took some money. I’m a good client, your honor. From now on, I will go there more regularly. »

Of course, this was a glitch in the Zero-G system, otherwise they would have not fixed it.

I could understand someone using the code for a couple of packs at the most, if he’s buying something after that.

But, seeing people that are glad using the code for 23 or 50 packs for free... C’mon, that’s pretty shameful.

As far as I know, the act of stealing is taking for himself something which was not supposed to be taken.

Call it what you want, if that makes you feel good...

If you’re so clean about what you did, at least write to Zero-G and ask them if they are good with what you did...
Yes, that's exactly the same thing. View must be nice from up there on your high horse.
If you start a debate about piracy, I’m pretty sure that you will see people starting to use these kind of arguments to justify that there’s no problem with that.

It’s easy to attack the messenger instead of recognizing that you might have use too much of a good thing...
Since you're all self righteous, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
and throw those stone at those who misinterpret scripture

yeah, that sounds like it should work out fine.

Yep. The zero-g Datafile series were, AFAIK, completely uncleared and ripped from records and other copyrighted sources. There's a hilarious disclaimer on their website that states that users were not given a commercial license. I thought that something like this was in the liner notes, but this gearslutz thread says no.

https://www.gearslutz.com/board/electro ... afile.html

Ah yes, on edit: this is correct. There is nothing on the liner notes. I was remembering the cheeky copyright claim on the compilation from time and space. My memory was confounded by a disclaimer on a different sampling CD from the era that did have something to the effect of "we think that these samples aren't copyrighted, but if you think that they might be, then you need to clear them first."

This was early in the legal battle over samples, nonetheless, enough was known that they felt the need for their own copyright claims in the liner notes. There's no way to slice it such that it was all on the up and up.

None of this makes "ripping off" zero-g right, but, nothing makes customers taking advantage of the offer mailed to customers, as is, "ripping off" zero-g.

BTW: This is the exact text of the email. There are no limitations here than that it was meant for existing zero-g customers who are on the mailing list. Now, whether or not you had to have spent money with them before to get this email, I don't know, I doubt it, but I don't know, emphasis mine.
As a present to all of our customers, we're giving you $10 discount on top of all of our winter savings. Use the following code as many times as you like over the next 24 hours!
There is no confusion here. This was intended as a gift from zero-g to their customers. There are no restrictions on what you had to put in your cart, and, since they allowed reuse, any reasonable person would conclude that they intended for you to get a $10 discount on every product ordered, as buying one product at a time would provide the maximum discount.

Does anyone really think that the multiple variations on the Amen break that appear on countless sample packs to this day have been cleared?

Hell, many modern sample packs use reprocessed drum hits from the old Vengeance libraries, many of which were proven to have been lifted directly from commercially released house tracks.

(and no i can't be bothered to cite this claim but search around if you want proof, it's common knowledge)

I've been wondering the same thing, I think someone mentioned that they do. I've been using PluginDoctor on a few occasions in demo mode for a while now, i should probably upgrade it.
