Hey, if I had a dollar for every 1176 plugin on the market, I'd probably have like $25.Urs wrote:(funny, until recently I thought it was commonly accepted that plug-in developers create "inspired" products, ranging from analogue emulations over sample players to stomp boxes and whatever... I'm not sure what it is, but it seems that Repro-1 adds an itch to see this differently. If I knew what it was that makes Repro-1 any different from, say, ArtsAcoustica's "Big Rock", Pianoteq's "YC5" or any number of Rhodes sample packs... I'd fix it - unless it involves making Repro-1 a lesser product)
My serious take on that is people are probably responding in part to the UI. We've heard stories for years about API going after companies who use their trademarked knob design, even if all it does it causes the plugin developers to just change the knob design and nothing else. I used to hear the same kind of things about Roland, where you could emulate a Roland synth with no problem, but if it looked too much like the original you'd get a cease and desist.
I don't know who trademarked what, or how strenuously each trademark is protected will obviously vary from company to company, but I guess that's what's driving the call the lawyer type questions.
