Apparently, you are a golden ears expert, who can judge the quality of Arturia's DSP chops – from listening to their videos.DuX wrote:Well, I'm obviously not impressed by Arturia's DSP and really if you can't hear the difference which is so obvious in *their video*... what am I supposed to say?
Personally, not claiming to have your superior ears, I prefer to download a demo, do what I always do first (mute or at least radically reduce the FX) and then make up my mind by actually playing and tweaking. Amateurish, I know.
In fact, I quite enjoy the DX7 V as an instrument in its own right.
I couldn't care less if it sounds like a carbon copy of the original Yama or not. I owned one for many years and if I wanted to more or less duplicate those exact sounds, I can turn to Dexed. What Arturia has managed to create, in my amateurish and uninformed view, is quite an inspiring instrument that makes FM editing more directly accessible and more fun than any other clone, or semi-clone such as FM 8, that I know.
But what do I know. Maybe I ought to listen more to the videos.

Here's a comparison of the Mini V on an iPad and a real Mini Moog. Now, it is not identical, but it really is not a scam, and I personally think the Mini V is pretty weak compared to many of the emulations. It is definitely in the ballpark and will appeal to 90% of users out there.

Seriously man! If you want the 100% real and genuine sound then move on and buy the original hardware. Anything else is and will always be an emulation. Sure there might be some emulations that are better but what emulations that actually are better or not is subjective. All humans doesn't perceive sound in the exact same way. A fun fact is also that if you put let's say 5pcs of Mini moog next to each other and tune in the exact same setting on each one you will find that they to doesn't sound exactly the same way. Also hardware is subjected to component tolerances, ageing of the circuits, etc. So far all your posts are only telling me one thing, and that is that you don't like ArturiaDuX wrote:I actually agree with that. Completely.braj wrote:I think by and large they are usable and decent, and often great like the SEM V. But it's still a marketing scam and not just the DX7. All the way back to their Moogs and Arp, CS-80... They are decent synths in their own right, but not really emulations of the real thing, as in *they don't sound authentic* and some of their "emus" are so far off it is laughable. The newer ones that sound better, like SEM V, are still far off the real thing.
Whoever is looking for a good emulation of vintage synths should look up u-he synths like Diva and Repro, for instance. TOGU sampler and other TOGU synths also sound more authentic than Arturia synths. It really is all just about a nice looking package [GUIs] when it comes to Arturia and their software is often rather buggy.

It is always the same with these wannabes. I was already fed up with how FM8 gets bashed regulary while real artists like Chemical Brothers list it as their essential gear. Too many people just don't deserve a good synth. Its like "DX7II, SY77, FS1R and Montage crap don't sound like DX7!! You can see it on the advert! Yamaha noobs should hire some real DSP engineers".

I'm not on board with calling it a "scam", but that's not true. Whether or not you can experience the difference between different emus is certainly a function of your individual familiarity, but it's not just "subjective" that some emus are better than others.ATN69 wrote:Seriously man! You have to define better. If you mean more authentic, then it is still a tough thing, because analog hardware does not always sound the same. So to be really objective you need to measure multiple machines and compare the average results with the emulation.braj wrote:ghettosynth wrote:

It's a new release and Arturia usually improved many things or adding new features with future updates.

Thank you all for shitting all over me for trying to be objective. Because I felt like someone should say something objective and constructive for a change. Not just "Wow, great work! I'm floored! Where's my wallet?"
Typical KVR...
You think it's subjective, but maybe one day you'll be able to see that it's not. I really have nothing personal against Arturia, but some things should be said. Criticism, if necessary, produces a better product in the end. Patting on the head even when they do something wrong will just assure them they don't have to change anything.
Have a nice day.

Nothing that you said makes it subjective. Some models of analog circuits are objectively better than other models of analog circuits given that we fix whichever parameters you wish to fix for the purpose of the test.jme-audio wrote:You have to define better. This is pretty apparent even just comparing Arturia models where the new models are objectively better than their old models because they paid more attention to detail. This results in higher CPU usage and better sound.

Calling their products a scam goes beyond criticism though. I think that you can talk about the weakness of some of their models without calling it a "scam."

Yeah DuX, you were not being objective about people being insane and Arturia being scammers. I don't have any issue with saying the synths are not that accurate, but you said more than that and not in a nice way.
