The Arturia clavs sound great. I was only pointing out, that Logic's clav - sounded closer to what Stevie Wonder's... for this track.

I put a portion of Superstition into a loop, and tried most all of the clav patches. Other than setting the instances of the Arturia clav to the various clav types, I didn't really spend much time trying to adjust their tones. Like I said though - the Logic project is attached above. Anyone is welcome to download and try it. If you have Logic Pro.. you have the instruments on the track. If you download the Arturia clav, you can swap the instruments in the project.

It's all subjective though, and a diversion from the topic. Apologies for that! I did post an old Logic Pro "Superstition" track I had created a few years ago, though... if anyone is interested. As Ingo pointed out - the clav parts of this song, while not too complex, are stacked, and interesting. All the instruments in this project are Logic Pro au instruments.

Two things regarding sequencing and modulations in the DX7 V that might not be directly evident are:
* You have to route the sequencer in the mod matrix. Most sequencers are 'hardwired' to manipulate pitch and amplitude but here you route the sequencer to different parameters. But once you know that, it is very powerfull.
* Modulations or even sequences are not necessarily done on the MODS tab with the LFO's and the sequencer but can be /are done with the MSEG envelopes in loop mode (of which you have a whole lot) on the ENVELOPES tab.
In fact by combining the sequencer (+mod matrix), arp and the envelopes you have a whole lot of possibilities.

Using the envelopes in MSEG mode as a step sequencer is indeed an interesting option and of course the dedicated step sequencer could be really useful too also as it could be routed to any mod destination.Stefken wrote:Two things regarding sequencing and modulations in the DX7 V that might not be directly evident are:

As each mod matrix slot could use up to 8 destinations you could use a single slot for routing the step sequencer to multiple mod destinations.
As i tried to point out multiple times here DX7 V with the advanced features used could be a really powerful FM synth.

The DX7 V has a built in sequencer? Cool! Wish my DX7 had that.Stefken wrote:Two things regarding sequencing and modulations in the DX7 V that might not be directly evident are:

The step sequener at the MOD page could be routed to all mod destinations using the mod matrixwagtunes wrote:The DX7 V has a built in sequencer? Cool! Wish my DX7 had that.Stefken wrote:Two things regarding sequencing and modulations in the DX7 V that might not be directly evident are:

I had mentioned the mod sources and destinations in DX7 V at page 64:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... &start=945.
As just mentioned again in my previous post each of the 24 mod matrix slots could use up to 8 destinations at the same time.
Besides that as Stefken just mentioned you could also use the envelopes in MSEG mode as step sequencers.
At the "Envelopes" page you can switch each of the envelopes (including 2 additional Mod envelopes) to 3 differerent modes (default is the DX7 mode).

I finally decided not to put this off anymore. Before I get into my reasons why, there are a couple of things about installation that I'd like to comment on.
1. During the course of the installation, a white box popped up saying that I had to specify a valid path. I clicked okay but nothing ever came up letting me put in a path and it just continued until finishing. I'm assuming installation went okay but I haven't checked yet. Has anybody else had this happen to them?
2. We've gone from 17 instruments to 21. However, when installing, it downloaded and installed all 21 and not just the new instruments. I'm sure they couldn't have updated everything. This got me to thinking. As the V collection grows, if they continue to update in this same manner, eventually, download and install is going to take a very long time. Today's took over a half hour on a high speed connection. I'm hoping in the future they'll allow you to choose what you want to download and install.
Okay, so why did I decide to pay the extra $100 and not wait the 6 months to get this for $99?
Well, for starters, I really loved the way the Easel and CMI sounded and I wanted to dive into them right away. And now, seeing how many more features the DX7 V has over the original, I'm even excited about that as well.
But the main reason, if I'm honest, is for business reasons. Waiting 6 months on a new product that, for business purposes would be stupid to not jump all over just made no sense to me. The V5 collection is my 8th best selling library, which, to be honest, is a bit of a surprise to me given how many people complain about their emulations not being true to the original. So I guess there are a decent number of people out there who don't care about that and enjoy the instruments for what they are. Now this doesn't mean the V6 collection is going to do as well for me, but I'd be foolish to at least not find out as soon as possible.
So those are my reasons for buying this now.
And, finally, before I get the usual spam allocations for this post, I have removed my signature from it, not that that's going to matter to some people but at least I tried.
The only reason I upgraded to the V5 collection was because of the large GUIs. It was only a happy accident that I fell in love with the Synclavier in its own right. That was the icing on the cake. But in this update, there are 3 synths that I'm really excited about, especially the CMI. I remember so wanting a Fairlight when I was younger and realizing I'd never have enough money to get one. This might be as close as I get to the real thing.
Finally, I hope to God that this is it for me this year. I have spent $8553 on stuff this year, including almost $900 for a computer upgrade.

So hopefully, this is it. In fact, unless something comes out on sale that is going to end before January 1, I'm going on a 15 day "no spend" revolt. So don't anybody tempt me with new stuff. I don't want to hear it. Just leave me alone until January 1.
Anyway, I have way too many new toys to play with. Sadly, I don't have enough time to really play with them all. Between having a business to run and actually making music (I've done 10 CDs this year) I have no time to just fool around at all. I miss that.
Wow, what a crazy year.

In the prefereences of Software Center i selected the VST2 path, used "silent install" (= no installer pops up) and selected deleing the installers after installation.
That way installing updates, demos and new products seeemed to work nicely recently, at least for me.
PS:
Nice to hear you finally got the upgrade....

Yes, all the instruments have had updates, albeit minor ones. The V6 versions are different to the V5 versions. You don't *have* to install them, presumably... All the instruments are available as individual downloads from Arturia, so if you just want to dl and install the latest four, you can just do that...wagtunes wrote:2.
