So Nine Inch Nails announced their/his new album, Year Zero.
I went over to the site... click around under the tracklisting and you'll find some incredible gear porn.
TONS of Metasonix effects.
Every Monitor Ever
Filterbank 2x2 plus more
Just... Goddammit
Empirical Labs... Chandler... Etc.

Regardless of what is actually put on tape, there is something to be said about the satisfaction I get from patching hardware. I can't speak for anyone else but I have always looked at Reznor's arsenal as my ultimate wish list. That being said, I don't think I would aim to replicate his sounds if I could acquire such an impressive rig. I can say (and anyone that owns a modular will probably agree) that creating useable patches with such a kit can be a challenge in and of itself. I find that part of the draw, for me, to this kind of mammoth system is the desire to use any available source to create sounds that are enigmatic but at the same time somehow familiar. I can't say that I feel Reznor's latest offerings have shown the potential of the gear but I can hear the potential none the less.
Call me pretentious, but sometimes a little self-indulgent pretense can be fun and satisfying.

That's even too much stuff!!
But no, seriously, how do you keep anything like that even remotely organized? Hehe, i know i couldn't, and would end up using a quarter of all that junk, at best!
