this is the 1st time i've seen this message. however, i rarely encounter msi files. why use an installer in the 1st place? isn't it well known that we like to do it ourselves?
androidlove wrote: i got extractor just for this installer. the files i wound up with are odd. could i just get the synth in a zip so i can use it? seems it'd be easier for you than it was sticking it in an installer. i seem to remember it coming with a stand alone. i don't need that. does any1 still use those?

androidlove wrote: once again i ask, why have an install? i'd much rather have the files. that way there is no install program to wrestle with and no registry change. i've tried a couple hundred synths, and very few came with an installer.
i thought maybe i'd get your attention with a thread devoted to the question

The only reason an installer might be useful is if one doesn't believe the user can be trusted to get everything where it needs to be. If there are presets or data files that have to be in an absolute path because this is coded into a plug-in, for example, then an installer is almost a necessity. Some installers place presets and project folders in a totally different part of the system, such as My Documents, while the plug-in resides in Vstplugins -- I assume the developer wants to maintain some consistency with other developers who follow this convention. Ideally, an installer allows users to select another location if they so choose. I'm generally not too keen on installers because they don't always provide sufficient information or control.

I've given the answer to that question way back in the past: Since SynthMaster has many files, I decided to use an installer. Maybe that might change in v2.0

I'd always try to have an installer if possible because it gives a more professional impression rather than simply drag and drop copying IMO.

However, I'd offer two packages : one with .exe installer and one with .zip for DIY install

but that's a "more professional impression" on the hobbyist. a pro would know just what to do with the files and, i'll bet, prefer the manual method

is that why you didn't respond in the present?

That's gonna happen with SynthMaster 2.0! Right now, the current beta is a plain .rar archive :)
