I like Olga and the interface. Other than the actual function showing up when hovered over - at least in FL Studio - there are few enough controls to be able to remember exactly what they do - and hear what they're doing when they're moved. So I found the GUI quite enchanting. Besides, we find sweet-spots/biting-points by ear, not number value.

With a little processing (here in FL Studio's Patcher), Olga can sound really fresh.

But, indeed, it was the same deal with the VST3 version in FL Studio - the VST2 version still works fine but something is broken with the VST3.

After trying vacuum pro, it’s kind of hard to justify paying $80 for a synth that’s not as flexible or useable than one that regularly sells for $5. And you can recreate nearly any Olga patch in vacuum pro as well. Very similar character.

I think you'd need to work a lot harder to push Vacuum Pro to he point that it can compete with Olga for sheer madness. But the cool thing with Olga is you don't have to buy it. There is no way I am paying $80 for it and it never goes on sale, so I use it unregistered. It just means you have to wait a few seconds for that countdown to finish when you load it. Hardly the end of the world. If the price was more reasonable or if it had its own preset management system, I might be willing to pay $80 if I ever use it in a song but for what it is, exactly, right now, it is way over-priced. I'd pay maybe $50 but no more than that.

I spent last night going through all the presets, tweaking and saving my own versions. I got a few decent, possibly even useful, things out of it but mostly I ended up making 30 patches that all sound basically the same, and probably won't be very useful at all, because the good stuff in Olga is way too addictive. It's an absolute beast!

Gotta actually try this synth. Not sure I need another VA as I have Repros, Monark and Diva but this one seems fun just to play with.

I finally talked myself into buying Olga but I can't. I tried twice but it seems they don't want my money because I got an "order cancelled" message both times.

EDIT: I went back and tried again, this time with PayPal, and it worked fine. Woo-hoo! I'm still not convinced it's worth $88 but f**k it!

Just tried this out for the first time today. It's great. Not much activity on the Stillwell website forum but there are claims that M1 versions are coming, so I guess there's still active development.

Yeah, it's deader than a doornail around there. I bought Oligarc last week. It's f**king awesome! It turns any synth into Olga! The synth line in this is Proclethya with Oligarc. It's utterly mental! The guitar, bass and drums are all Ujam things and the strings in the chorus are AX73.

After I posted this up last night, I spent another hour or two tweaking it and it sounds even better now. The bass has got a bit more presence. The stupid thing with this song is most people know it from Metallica doing a cover as a b-side. Even the MIDI file I used to make it came from a Metallica fan site. I had to take the metal bits out of the arrangment but it's ended up a bit of a hybrid of the original and the cover.

OLGA is still rocking IMHO, after all these years. It just has a lot of cojones. I get super ripping leads out of it. That phaser is insane!
