Where's the gate sequencer?

Just got Sylenth1 in the group buy and must say this is an amazing piece of work. Real value there, especially at the group buy price. Great sound, easy to tweak and great presets too. Nicely done, sir.

My question has to do with the 'gate' presets. The arp effect is clearly marked and easy to get to. But the gate presets don't appear to be using the arp sequencer and I can't for the life of me find out where the effect comes from.

Can someone let me in on the secret?

I would guess a saw/square LFO is probably the gate source.

Actually it is pretty hard to find if you don't know where to look. You can use the step velocity in the misc modulation section to modulate the mix ab paramater. Turn both volumes all the way down so the step velocity completely controls the gate.

Step velocity is the steps that are found in the arp section. Bottom row of the sequence. Make sure you don't activate the arp though as this will add an arp on top of the gater.

That's what threw me off. How does it work if the ARP isn't checked off?

So it's always on then, right? Anything other than 100's will great a gate effect?

The gate is indeed always on (unless you don't use it of course). You can use the step velocity and the hold buttons on the step sequencer to design a gating pattern. Velocity set to '-' will skip the step, any other value will modulate the destination with that exact value (so you can gate with different values for each step). Also check here:

By the way, you can still activate the Arp on top of the gater to create some new sound effects. The arp does not need the step values (it will only use the step sequencer if the Arp Mode is set to step and/or the Arp Velocity is set to Step (+ Key/Hold).
