Timing question (Cream+MUX+Studio One)

Hi everybody,

Brand new MUX user here :)

I'm using Kirnu Cream (an arpeggiator) inside Studio One 2.5. As Studio One has issues with the timing when sending notes between tracks, I tried to use Cream inside MUX. This way I get stable, even timing from Cream.

However I noticed something interesting and I'm not sure if it is caused by Studio One, MUX or Cream, so I made a video of it
(audio + video are slightly out of sync, but that's not the issue here)

Basic setup:
- MUX as an instrument in Studio One
- inside MUX, route incoming MIDI to Cream and from there to a synth (here: Dune)
- play half notes, Cream plays 16ths
- set the "Length" of the first step to 2, so Cream should play an 8th followed by six 16ths

This works only if I delay the incoming MIDI by a very tiny amount (either using Studio One's track delay or e.g. a delay module inside MUX). Without the delay, Cream sometimes skips the first 8th and keeps playing 16ths.
But with the delay (just 0.02 milliseconds is enough), it plays the pattern as expected.

I get the same effect if I use Cream in Reaper (a simple track with Cream and the synth as FX), when I move the MIDI notes a tiny bit to the left (ie, they are a bit too early).

As I said, I don't know what causes this (Studio One, MUX or Cream) and the work around is very simple, but maybe you have an idea what could cause this.

Regards,
Andre

Do you have any other hosts on your system? If yes and you repeat the same setup in (an)other host(s), then does the same problem occur?

I wasn't able to reproduce it in Live 8, FL Studio 10.9 and Reaper 4.3x.
In Studio One it's easily reproducible.

It might well be a S1 problem OR a problem of Cream which is still in pre-release (although the predecessor Kirnu has the same issue).

With the work-around it's not that much of an issue. I just wanted to report it in case other users are experiencing timing issues in S1.

I'm having a lot of fun with MUX so far. It's really useful.

Thanks for your feedback. Ok, so lets logically assume it's not a MUX problem.

If you're happy about MUX please spread the good news via your social networks and help in getting more attention to MUX. More attention = more resources = faster development!

Kirnu doesn't have an issue in Mulab so I'm going to guess this is a S1 issue

Often, this kind of timing issues are due to the PDC implementation in the host, and it depends on the plugins you use, if they insert some delay or not...
