What's up guys, Zencha here again.

I'm not entirely sure if this is the best place in the KVR forum for it... but there's no section on "workflow" or "creative process" or "mindset" .... which kind of says something in and of itself, eh?

I figure you guys will appreciate it the most then!

When anyone signs up for the newsletter on my site, I automatically send them an e-mail asking them what they are struggling with.

I've collected 9 common struggles people have told me about and written a meaty article tackling them. Any of these things sound familiar?:
  • 1. You think a part of your song is too long winded. You’re not sure if a part of your song is too repetitive.
    2. You think your song (or some aspect) is too “simple.”
    3. You can’t seem to make the sound you want. You think your sounds are “cheesy.”
    4. You can’t seem to get a sound from your head into your computer.
    5. You think your tracks are “unoriginal” or all sound the same.
    6. You don’t know where to go next — you find yourself stuck after writing an 8 bar loop. Not sure where to take or bring your track.
    7. You don’t think you have enough time.
    8. You find yourself getting hit by creative blocks and are not sure how to get past them.
    9. You think your music is trash. You think your music is bad. You find yourself doubting if you have the ability to make something good.

What usually gets me apart from tiny bits of each of these is this:

I'll have an idea worked out in my head, at least eight bars or more. Bass, melody, percussion, most of the technical makes sense at a glance.

I try to actually record it and I've forgotten what I was ever going to record in the first place.

I suppose this is the result of having been thumped in the head repeatedly and well enough not to remember it having happened. Either that, or that my opinion of the creative process is that a key factor is being able to maintain that inspirational image in your mind in focus while you work to make it concrete.

The idea that I could have a sort of "save" for my mind and be able to hit repeat over and over until I can actually complete the work would be the greatest thing in the world.

I'm not talking transformations that occur over time or reality vs. fantasy, I'm talking *poof* gone.
Free plug-ins for Windows, MacOS and Linux. Xhip Synthesizer v8.0 and Xhip Effects Bundle v6.7.
The coder's credo: We believe our work is neither clever nor difficult; it is done because we thought it would be easy.
Work less; get more done.

There is a sub-forum created for things that don't necessarily fit the categories provided for, 'Everything Else', where people talk about this kind of thing freely. I don't think it says anything in and of itself that there is no 'mindset' board or something.

this: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 9&t=162136
is the sort of mission statement about 'Music theory' sub-forum, a guideline for what it is. Had you framed some of this, eg., '8-bar loops' say as a discussion of songwriting form, here's more of a fit...
As we have it, it seems to fit better with your other very similiar post in "Production Techniques" than here, I mean if you want to generate more discussion there are two boards that might be more conducive.

I don't think the people looking for (or prepared to offer) "Music theory" help are exactly the people that 'will appreciate it the most'.
