Hi everyone,
I know how to load an instrument, switch to the modular view, edit the module network, edit the front panel, and save. How do I open a blank canvas and begin an instrument from scratch?

OK, I see the templates. Thank you! So, to make new synth, the proper workflow is:
1. Start a new MuLab project
2. Add a new track with the empty synth template
3. Open the template from the rack
4. Make the new synth
Got it.

Open MuLab using the Factory "New" template (in this example)
Replace the Basic Synth in the rack with Modules->Other->Mux Modular
Then go from there. That gives you a "bare" Mux with event in/out and audio in/out so it can be a synth or effect.
The one thing to add for a Synth is that using the PolySynth is useful, so using "Factory Presets->Instruments->Templates->Empty Synth" rather than "Mux Modular" is a better start point.
