I've found that the "Strong" compressor algorithm works best for this, only the problem is a considerable amount of distortion is produced with incredibly fast attack times, and becomes even more noticeable with short release times.
Of course, I love this kind of distortion in certain situations, but I would love to be able to clip huge gain spikes, similar to the way a limiter would, without a bunch of grouchy distortion, though I understand that distortion is a fact of life with any amount of clipping, but if anyone knows of a way to somehow tame high-transient energy without too much distortion, I would be greatly appreciative!
Thanks!
