Any opinions on these and how they compare to one another? I had AD1 a long time ago and I liked it, but then got Slate Drums 4 and it had way more variations in kit pieces (especially snares). Sounded more mix ready too.
I have EZD 2 now and it is awesome (love the tap 2 find groove thing), but want to upgrade.
Though SD is more expensive, it seems you get a ton with it (7 kits, brushes, mallets, etc) - would have to buy that separately with AD.

I had Addictive Drums a while back, but had to get rid of them. For me, they just weren't sampled anywhere deeply enough5Lives wrote:Any opinions on these and how they compare to one another? SD3 is using uncompressed samples, AD2 uses compression, like EZD too. That's probably the biggest difference. Oh and SD3's user interface is spectacular. And there's no limit to how many slots you can load, whereas in AD you have a fixed number of instrument slots.

Fxpansion bfd3 is currently 50% off, if you want an alternative to try.

I think SD3 is a game changer as much as stylus rmx was back in the days.
From those I have heard, none of them sound as good as the new George Massenburg's core library and the AI or whatever they do to match and vary grooves are next generation imho.
I have both and I haven't used Addictive 2 once since I got SD3 on any new project.
For me SD3 was the product of 2017 and I am a gearslut and buy lots of stuff.
my two cents

Sounds like SD3 is the way to go.

I agree. In terms of sound quality, SD3 sounds great! And the new improvements to the workflow of SD3 compared to SD2 is also a big plus.5Lives wrote:Sounds like SD3 is the way to go.
I own a ton of drum libraries, but SD3 is now my go-to library. Sounds great and has some cool new features.

Bought SD3 yesterday. Don’t see any reason to buy another acoustic drum sampler now. This thing is incredible!

I ignored this release (didn’t even watch the vids) because after having EZD, SD2 which I rarely was using, the Komplete stuff, and SSD (which didn’t get used much either), I ended up with AD and wanted to be set. This is really bad news.

What is the advantage of SD3 over BFD3?

I can't speak for zvenx, but here's my take on that idea. Stylus made things easy and fun, positively encouraging experimentation without getting all nerdy and computer-technical. I still love working with it even though the library covers mostly the mid 1850s. The speed and ease of throwing together elements from different loops, time-locking them and generally mucking about is a joy, and remains so (even as the world waits for its desperately overdue replacement).macmuse wrote:How so?zvenx wrote:I think SD3 is a game changer as much as stylus rmx was back in the days.
The difference between SD2 and SD3 is just phenomenal to me. It's all about the user interface, which - just like RMX - makes experimentation very simple. So quick to switch out kit parts and manipulate them, tap in a groove and find a real drummer playing it, create subtle or wild variations in the mixer, generate an entire song's worth of grooves generated from just the one, all without having to wear a propeller hat or drink real ale. That said, EZ Drummer 2 has many of the same features and predates it, but of course SD3 steps up the quality and sophistication considerably.
In short - both are just fun to play around with, and sound great.

I've only tried the demo of BFD3, but SD3's interface is so much better and I find the sounds and variety in the Core samples better as well. I've also experienced robust stability with Toontrack's software with good updates (something FXpansion has not really done - see Geist 2).perpetual3 wrote:What is the advantage of SD3 over BFD3?
I would highly recommend SD3 to anybody looking for acoustic drums. It literally is superior.

In terms of interface and experimenting, probably. In terms of sound, no.
BFD's cymbal modeling makes it superior to any other drum software out there for realistic stuff if you plan on riding cymbal/hi-hats. Once you've heard it, all others sound fake. Sure, you can somewhat do this yourself by adjusting attack on individual hits, but BFD makes it so easy. Highly recommended, especially now that there's a huge sale.
