I've always wanted automation clips. And I know there's a hacky way to do it now (I use it for tempo changes). But proper automation clips. Oddly enough a small unusual DAW, Blockhead, handles automation (with clips) better than any big DAW I've used.

I don't use MIDI much. I'd prefer to have a step editor. I've never particularly liked ANY piano roll. People rave about FL's piano roll, so I trust it's good, but I don't understand why.

I would say that the piano roll in fl studio is quite close to a good step sequencer. The thing is that it's so easy to create midi in it that it invites experimentation - similar to the modulators in bitwig studio. It has various riff generators and such, great if you have creator block or don't know music theory. You can insert chords by one click as well...
And yes, Blockhead is a great piece of software!

Bitwig can take this one step further and make midi non destructive like existing midi modulators do.

Hopefully subgrids and customizable device panels now that the GUI is updated.
Then I won’t have to upgrade ever again.

Except if they add a proper step sequencer, like FL studios.
