Correlometer is an analog-style stereo multi-band correlation meter plug-in based on the correlation meter found in the PHA-979 phase-alignment plugin.

Multi-band correlation meter is an advanced way to check for presence of out-of-phase elements in the mix. Broadband correlation metering reports overall phase issues and may misrepresent problems present in select spectral bands, while multi-band correlation meter easily highlights problems present in mid to high frequencies that are not easily heard by ear, but may still reduce clarity of the mix. Another application of multi-band correlation metering is phase- and time-aligning of channels and tracks, especially bass and bass-drum pairs, guitar mic and D.I. source pairs, two-microphone stereo recordings, etc.

Correlometer can display 4 to 64 individual spectral bands, with adjustable band quality factor that controls the degree of band's selectivity. Averaging time of correlation estimator can be adjusted. Correlometer supports side-chain inputs for easy correlation estimation between separate audio tracks.

Correlometer features:

  • 4 to 64 band correlation meter.
  • Adjustable band quality factor.
  • Adjustable averaging time.
  • Side-chain input.
  • Resizable user interface.
  • All sample rates support.
  • Zero processing latency.
  • User interface color schemes.
  • Retina and HighDPI support.

You think Correlometers are helpful? Yes?

But what if you could have one correlometer per up to 64 frequency bands to determine where phase issues exactly lie in the signal? Wouldn't that be absolutely amazing?

Well, now you have. And it's even for free.

You can scale the monitor however you want (if you only want to see the area from 0 to +1.0 or -1.0 to 0) and as Voxengo plugin, you also can costumize the colors of the GUI to your taste. Plus you can even compare the left or right channel to a sidechain feed.

Another so helpful and free tool from Voxengo, I can't understand why isn't more popular. Isn't that developer awesome?

I had been waiting for Voxengo to release this functionality in a standalone plugin. I would have paid for it, but here it is for free. Voxengo is legendary in my book for dropping incredibly useful metering plugins for free that outperform competitors' plugins that run over a hundred bucks. SPAN, Correlometer, MSED, Stereo Touch, Sound Delay get used on every job. Correlometer lets me pinpoint phase problems immediately, which is a huge time-saver. I don't find single correlation meters to be much use when compared to one like this that shows the whole spectrum. It just seems anyone who cares about phase would want to know where the cancellations are happening. This solves that... for free. I also love how Voxengo lets you tweak metering behavior to taste. Even when I try metering plugins from other Vendors or get the occasional NFRs, I always seem to prefer Voxengo's free plugins anyway.

There is no to be said about this plugin, it is simple and straitforward, so for me it is adopted. Mainly I will use it to check the mono compatibility of mixes and elements in the mix.

It has also a user manual which is short and concise. They say it can be used to check the phase alignement of vocals and drums which cannot do other free plugin (at least that I know).

I used to use the flux stereotool to check the phase but this one tells you the problematic frequency which can be useful in some cases, so for me it is adopted, it will replace the stereotool.
