IR-Lab is a plugin for most DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations). It can be loaded as a VST, AU or AAX module in any compatible host on Windows and Mac OS X systems.
It is a realtime effect so it can be used for live playing and for mixing.
It loads Impulse Responses (IR) but doesn't use plain, linear convolution. It uses your target IR to tune a physical model of a cabinet.
In addition, it loads custom XIR files (eXtended Impulse Responses), models specifically measured and built for it, that contain a lot of non-linear information about the target cabinet, for increased realism and more pleasant playing.
It also includes Dynamic and Movement modes:
Dynamic: build models that respond with different IR depending on input level.
Movement: activate a rotation (and/or swing) of the cabinet for "Leslie-style" effects or more experimental sounds (like the old practice of having a cabinet hanging from the ceiling and swinging in a room).
IR-Lab lets the user export the resulting sound as an Impulse Response, a preset or a XIR (eXtended IR) file.
Instructions and means are provided to the user who is interested in building his own XIR models by measuring cabinets in the studio.
