This is a personal project. Please visit www.saguaro.one for more information and details. Saguaro.one has a number of flaws, some of which might be solved in the future. It is also at the mercy of any behaviour inherent to FlowStone itself.

Simple Flowstone synth with a smile to take you back to the 90's... Just a fun personal project.

This synth uses mainly the saw waveform (hence name "Saguaro") which it adds/subtracts/mixes with other basic waveforms in prewired schemes (selectable as Osc Modules, utilizing varying amount of oscillators).

Up to 64 voices depending on CPU, it Features no analog emulation, no special unison, no effects like delay, chorus, reverb or any other FX processing. Only straightforward harsh digital-mono mayhem with some filtering. No secret internal workings except for FlowStone's excellent audio/dsp engine itself and a great deal of internal modules created or optimized by MV (see link below).

Saguaro.one doesn't feature a regular oscillator section, only 3 main parameter knobs are exposed and a fundamental saw adjustment. This is intentional and very rompler-like yet without being a rompler.
Apart from this Saguaro.one do however feature rudimentary modulation by 2 LFOs and 2 Envelopes. It also features an auxiliary (extra/sub) oscillator.

Saguaro.one can be considered a barebone 1+1 oscillator synth of sorts. Osc Module + Aux Oscillator.
To understand the idea of the synth choose the default patch (INIT) and try the different Osc modules, tweaking P1, P2 and P3. Adjusting these parameters on an already made preset will likely not yield a satisfactory change, since they might be modulated already.

Big thanks to MV his contributions to the FlowStone community made this synth possible. MV deals in even more advanced audio/image processing than any of his modules that was used for this particular synth. MVs website can be found here

Disclaimer
This is an experimental synth and as such it does have sound issues including clicks and some aliasing. I am by no means an audio/DSP-engineer. Saguaro.one is a pasttime dabble and there might be more Osc Modules. When and how many depends ultimately on any public interest for the plugin. Let me know if you find this plugin fun or useful in some way.

Version 0.579 Update #3 December 2025:

  • LFOs Key Stepper 16
    - Fixes and adjustments
    - For some known issues see Update history for this version (v0.579).
  • Pitch Mod
    - Added option for applying Portamento (if used/enabled) to pitch modulation under Pitch Source-dropdown
    - Fixed: Did not output correct initial mod value according to pitch on new voices.

Version 0.576 Update #2 December 2025:

  • LFOs Key Stepper 16.

    - New waveform: Gate (PW Square)
    - New slider for setting pattern start position. Start position applies to when triggering/retriggering current pattern
    - Adjusted Key Stepper schematics. Hopefully fixes some of the issues with retrograde playback, "transpose at pattern end" problem and perhaps minor recording issues
    - Hovering anywhere above the LFO screen or the Start Position slider now shows current step at playback.

  • Reworked synths knob-activation logic.

    - Changing preset is still quite slow but now slightly faster than atleast most recent versions of Saguaro.one
    - "Try deactivating knobs" button on the About screen now works almost instantaneous without freezing up the synth (but does clear the audio)
    - "Please wait" dialog is now more consistent. When it closes, the synth should be ready to play
    - Flipping across the different green panels (Mod Env, LFO, Aux Osc etc) now as quick as earlier versions of the synth. Became sluggish
    - Unfortunately. Loading banks/preset files still takes a very long time.
  • GUI.

    - Changed some bitmaps and adjusted some knobs that were not aligned correctly
    - Fixed some GUI update issues. Might have been introduced with some previous version.

  • Please note
Replacing old version .DLL/.VST3 of Saguaro.one for updated versions might not always work when loading an old DAW project. Depending on what has been changed in Saguaro.one.
Easiest is to add second instances of Saguaro.one to you track(s) after replacing the .DLL/.VST3. Then start mirroring settings from the old instance of Saguaro.one to the new. Saving current preset as .txt file from old instance and loading into new instance might also work.

This is probably one of the coolest plugins I have discovered recently, and one of the best plugins I've seen created in flowstone. It is very versatile in the sounds it can create, and it features a playful and great looking UI.

The issue I had with it below has been fixed. Thank you dev, this synth is incredible :).

My first thought was: A Pokemon Synth?
Like the author wrote, it is not perfect, the possibilities are sparse and sometimes it sounds very harsh.
But I like it. I went thru the presets and found some surprisingly charming ones.
If you are in Lo-Fi and if your inner child is still alive...this thing can bring a smile on your face.

Feel free to leave comments about this plugin..:

  • What you like or hate the most about this plugin.
  • What works or does not.
  • If something "that falls within the realm" of the current concept of the synth is missing.

Just keep it simple since I'm not a studio-engineer, DSP- nor a math-guy
Have fun! And make some noise... or noises perhaps :-).
