Scorchit

Scorchit is a formant-linked saturator for macOS. Four saturation modes couple drive with a five-band vocal-formant filter bank, so pushing harder makes a voice sound deeper or chirpier — without ever changing its pitch. Drop any audio clip onto the sidechain and its amplitude envelope pumps the drive for rhythmic, breathing saturation.

Saturation Engine:

• Four modes — Warm (tanh), Grit (asymmetric), Tape (tanh + rolloff), Tube (even-harmonic).
• Drive and Character are coupled — as drive rises, the formant bank shifts in the Character direction.
• Formant Link sets how much drive modulates character.
• Oversampling — Standard (4x) and HQ (8x) with static latency reporting for gapless mode switching.

Formant Filter Bank:

• Five parallel bandpass filters modeling vocal formant resonances, all shifting with Character, Link and Envelope.
• Resonance (Q 1–20) — higher for synthetic/robotic, lower for natural.
• Formant Mix blends dry post-saturation against the formant-filtered signal, with a phase-aligned dry path to avoid cancellation.

Vowel & Movement:

• Vowel Lock — Character snaps to five phonetic vowel positions (U, O, A, E, I) with per-vowel gain compensation.
• Melt — formant entropy adds slow, organic frequency drift for the instability of a real vocal tract, with independent L/R states for subtle stereo movement.

Envelope & Output:

• Drop a kick or loop (or any audio clip) onto the sidechain to modulate Drive with its amplitude envelope; Env Mod depth, Attack, Release and Invert for breathing effects.
• Auto-Gain RMS-matches perceived volume regardless of Drive; Tone EQ (±12 dB high-shelf), dry/wet Mix and output trim.
