Surrealistic MG-1 Plus Synthesizer

Authorization was no big deal. Super simple, and pretty common for computers in 2021.

I've tried every free MG-1 VSTi out there that exists, seeing as I have a real one sitting right next to me here. Ran this plugin through the same amp, through the same monitors, and it was 99% perfect, true to my real one. (1% is EASILY the typical differences between same model synths) Only issue is my real one is a LOT more twitchy: Oscillators jump around in a BAD way, not the GOOD way, the sliders are jerky and unrealiable - and my was even serviced! But, the SURREALISTIC is way better than that. plus it adds some enhancements that the real MG-1 doesn't do, like different wave types to the "Organ". The MG-1 is quirky, and odd with its set of limitations compared to the better synths out there, but this Cherry Audio version is THE VERY BEST free version of this synth. That and it is very fun to play with, and has a standalone version. It woke me up to the company, and I've since bought every new synth they've come out with, and had zero dissapointment in any of them.

EASY five stars for this awkward Moog stepchild synth. It is the ONLY version of the MG-1 I will be keeping. (and I recommend all their other plugs too and no, I don't work for that company)

Has usual, it needed an install and a registration. I try once and it was too restrictive... I forget it ..

But at second think, I manage to successfully install it (computer is NOT connected to internet).

If you can pass all the step to have it, it's have a great sound, and the GUI is very nice. (the normal price is 25$).

I'm also P'd off with devs insisting that I make an account to use free software. I refused in this case. The dev can just f**k off.

How about you just don't use it and not be a whiney little bitch?

It's a matter of principle. There is "always online" DRM. The goal of such a scheme is to collect personal data, assert control, and incentivize and facilitate further business. All at the user's expense. The software won't work without an internet connection. It won't even work on a typical laptop resolution, no text is readable. They close-mindedly designed it for 4K without testing it on smaller resolutions.

It's bad enough that when I buy a plugin, I'm only buying a license to use it, not something I can own. But this is too much. I'd rather spend $149 for OB-E than $29 for their junk if this is how they treat users.

I tried their free Modular synth last year. It was a pain in the ass to activate, and it constantly crashed. So I would avoid Cherry Audio going forward. Also holy hell, these ugly keyboard graphics take up half the screen real estate and can't even be hidden.
