Purple Mist soundset for Fathom

Reviewed By AmbieticA [all]

Version reviewed: 2.31.0.1 on Any OS

Purple Mist is my favorite Scrubbing Monkeys Fathom sound bank. It has a classic analog/digital hybrid feel, and makes full use of dynamic modulation techniques for optimal performance. Patches include lush ambient pads like Glass memories, and The dark way home, to highly dynamic basses like Bamboo boxes, and Rooted, that all use a mod wheel to completely transform the sound into an evolving rhythm-scape. And for those aspiring sound designers who want to understand the design behind the sound, Scrubbing Monkeys has meticulously programmed and placed each audio component and modulation routing in an order that demonstrates how each section of the audio path connects in a coherent fashion, which showcases the design process itself. Highly recommend sound bank.

After decades of sound design using multiple synthesizers and synthesis techniques, I believe I've finally found the "Holy Grail" of synthetic design using Fathom. It has seemingly limitless prospects, combined with the cleanest upper register audio I have ever heard! Using multiple synthesis methods, with such an open modular system, will leave any serious sound designer in awe over the complex potential that awaits them. Fathom has found a permanency within my sound design arsenal like no other synth ever has, and I feel like I've barely scratched the sound design "possibility" surface, as it feels like an infinite palette of sound awaits my further exploration into the depths of this unique synthesizer.
