My story was that my creativity and joy for making music was pretty much ruined over the years -- simply because I worked with all these things that gave me thousands of possibilities all the time. But I have learned that if I find compact concepts, the results are way better.
Again: very very helpful! It also sounds a lot like what I am going through, I switched from Cubase to Tracktion as well, threw out all the stuff I don't need and am trying to set up a small but effective setup.

I was talking about the aud send and returns in Tracktion itself, but appearently you're not using them.
As for the Ruffrider kit, I tried to get it to work in a demo version of BS-1 but so far I've only managed to get the cymbals working. The rest produced some weird clicks, is it me or the demo version of BS-1? Will try again later.

Again your approach appeals to me!

Thank you Slacknote :-) :-)

Exactly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I know it must be possible to find a perfect setup. I want to reach a situation where I will simply leave alone all the settings, knowing I have "instruments" I can simply turn on and record with. :D

No, worked here.
I am actually making a new soundfont (with the "Viena" software) in which I plan to bundle the 3 best drumkits I found, so I can load only -1- soundfont into the player, and then have the 3 kits ready with only one switch.

Hey.. I was so afraid that people laugh about me in this forum, but I found there are some really cool people here! Have you seen Daniel? He makes VST instruments. What a cool guy!!!

:-)

(sorry again, my English really sucks... but I TRY :D

I'll try again tonight.

IMHO the guys that write really cool music all have simple setups, the people with all the latest stuff are only busy upgrading and trying to get stuff working :-)

Actually your english is pretty good. And your posts have been some of the most interesting for quite some time, as well as the longest :D

I don't agree with all the conclusions you've reached, but I'm off to try the ruffriders drum soundfont, so you must be doing something right in the persuasion stakes.

Cheers
"my gosh it's a friggin hardware"

What's your opinion then?

I still can't get my head around how that works--that is, how you have each track only play one instrument when you wrap a synth or sampler in a rack. I've got to give it a go and see what's up!
I'm guessing you just have one track with just snare midi notes, one track with just tom1 midi notes etc etc ?
...aaahhhh [lightbulb above head]....thank you, makes perfect sense....still got to try it in the "real" world though!

I'm not getting involved in this discussion, but that's the second time you've said something along those lines, and i'm afraid you're factually incorrect. Try a google for "Etymology of the word god", and try not to just believe everything a bloke down the pub tells you just because it sounds good.
i dont drink at the pub ;)

& it will tell you in the bible that in the last days the dead languidge will be spoken on the 4 courners of the world!

& it will tell you about the queen that is not a widow,
all are welcome to beleave what thay want but the words god & lord do not come from hebrew, & thay where put into the bible to replace names

IMHO if you say god & mean the only ONE! worthy of worship then you are going in the right direction

& alot of the words in the english languidge came from the old greek languidge,

a few of my artists are raster's & study alot!! (not lerning from pissed pub drinkers)

some are western muslims, who study even more openley mindedley

& some are cristains, who all so study alot.

some are jahover's whitness'

all this info is out there for those that cere

but every thing to do with law has been tamperd with
including gods law & if you serch properley you will find meny meanings & origanations for the word god

i try not to follow religen!

but i do love my creater, & i do beleave he created the universe!

if you think i am mad thats not a problem

but i would not post somthing i herd about god in a pub ;)

(at this point i dont want to hit submit but i will)

sonicsmurf,

Awesome stuff! I, too, have downloaded ruffrider (and easyrider, just in case) and the Golddrums. I already had the free nsKit.

You're English is fine, and your passion and wisdom shine through.

Simple is what I need! But I am easily seduced by complexity. I just hate myself, though, after I've squandered an afternoon tweaking nobs, with no music to show for it!!!!!!!!

What do you use to play these kits?

Post

The mind of a drummer... Very interesting! You know it's funny, when I played in bands for years, seems like we were always yelling at the drummers, they were wandering off the beat... trying to keep it consistant... because well, they're human, and it's damn tough to keep perfect time! Now, doing everything electronically, and actually trying to simulate some looseness into the "perefect" timing the computer does automatically! Ironic, I think... But honestly, my point of view is: it's electronic music, so synced beats are O.K. with me... as long as they're interesting and rythmically complex... sort of: "the din of the noisy world around us"... In an interesting arrangement. Melodic or otherewise. :)

A Pintech Spirit Plus kit plugged into a Roland TD-6. I'm a drummer (well, I started out as one in High School, then moved on to guitar, and now I'm trying to refresh my drum chops), so this is the simplest and most satisfying approach for me.

I don't mind trying to do drum parts at the keyboard, but that feels like a whole different instrument! LOL!

I initially thought the TD-6's sounds would be fine, but when I tried to use them in real mixes, they just sucked. They can be souped up in various ways, but I really want somethings that sounds good as I play it. Not after hours of production! The soundfont kits I've scrabbled together (not yet including those I've just downloaded per sonicsmurf's advice) sound good to my ears, so I've scrapped plans to buy a used Roland XV 5080 (with the SRX-01 Dynamic Drums board installed). That solution is just too much money for now.

Oh, I must tell you: if you tried to run Michael Kingston's "Ruffrider" and "Easyrider" kits with the normal soundfont player, maybe it will not work as it only works with some samplers like Halion.
It has to do with the key-mappings of the samples and with the filters -- anyway these kits work for me because I made my own soundfont out of all the parts (using the software "Viena") but, yeah... I would not expect you to go through the same trouble.

So if the Easyrider and Ruffrider do not work in your soundfont player, you probably have to wait until someone can freely distribute the standard format soundfont.

But I think it would not be allowed if I would publish the soundfonts I am working on (which include all 3 drumkits in a single soundfont so I can easily switch between the 3 kits). I think only the creators of these sample banks are allowed to distribute them.
So I see no solutions yet if you try Easyrider/Ruffrider and it does not work!

But the "GoldDrums" is also very good! :D :-)

ah...good to know. I'll try easy and ruffrider though, just to see.

I found this
http://audioshots.com/auditorium/viewto ... 48eb476c6a
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
Fixed it..downloaded vienna and had to manually edit all the tuning and filter cut offs..the cut offs were at 50hz and impossible to hear and the tunings were everywhere from -60 to +60
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Would it be possible if you shared your editted kits sonicsmurf, I mean it's obviously a bug in the soundfont and I can't imagine that the author would mind if someone fixed it, I mailed him but haven't heard back.
