If you do more recording, could you do a sample of when you put your foot down on the hats and release quickly to get a splashing sound? It's hard to find these (for sonme reason no one ever seems to put them out), and my own kit is in storage. I can be useful for special fx in jazz and some rock solos etc

I am going out there to see him (4 hour drive) toward the end of this month. We didnt get a chance in June to get his lil cymbals & minitoms(?) so I will definately record those this time. Also I might rerecord the cymbals in general with some better overheads (only had the nt1 and a 57 with me last time).

Also, I did distance miking on the snare with the nt1 while using the sm57 close up. I only used the 57 samples for this kit, but I'm thinking of mixing the 2 to give the snare some more weight.

If you got some like that where the top hat lightly touches the bottom as well to get a slight sizzle, that'd be fab. It's a different texture to when to stick the hats, and one I play quite a lot. [I really need to make some space to get my kit out of storage!]

I know that when I've recorded stuff I've just left the tape running to get all the squeaks of the drum stool, tightening of tom nuts, those clangs of dropping a cymbal. It's great fun to get all those things. I might try and find those tapes...

Sadly I only have those 3 for 'foot open' but I'll put that on the list for the upcoming trip.

Do dig out that tape, the editing can be a bear, but I think the results can be worth it.

The original goal for this project was to give him (and me) quick access to his kit, which is half-assembled/half-in-storage at another friends house. Ah the joys of apartment living.

update is coming soon, (hopefully within the next 2 days before my gf comes up for the weekend).

1. more layers on snares and mixed (distance + close miked) snare hits (snare #2 will be obliterated).
2. will add the foot open snare hits (above)
3. i will try to substitute in less abrasive cymbal hits (crash, ride splash) or at least a few more layers
4. will keep the uber-long open hihat, but I might make a 'tiny' version for the 'downloading-impaired'

I will still be adding some drums to this kit when I go out to record at the beginning of Dec.

any other suggestions?

also, if say this kit had say 10 times as many (quality, ie no frogs) samples, would it be worth $ to anyone? if so how much? (have to help support drummers you know, otherwise they turn funny colors)

Wow that update sound great! I'm not sure about purchasing a "platinum" version though, I have a tough time making my mind up about purchases maybe I'll have a better idea after the update and I compare it to what I already have. I think the kit has style though

Thanks again maximilians, I spent a couple hours last night re-layering the snares....much much better (and my volume levels argh). Will post soon.

selling a 'platinum version' prolly won't happen. I do however have literally hours of my friend playing drums, many different styles, etc that someday I might sell as a sample/loop cd... one project at a time however

Many more hours spent last night relayering toms & kick, I just have to knock out the hihat, should be able to finish that tonight...

Updated the kit! (links are updated on the 1st post of this thread as well)
It is now been dubbed the 'Cart Frogrock' Kit. Lotsa layers & samples added. Alot of sample trimming & tweaking. This version is completely dry, no reverb, no eq, no compression. All samples are raw/unprocessed.
