Ben...of course it is a bug. How is changing a preset name within a Mackie plug that does not save that state when the project is closed and re opened not a bug? Seriously I am guessing you misunderstood the 6 steps I outlined earlier.

Presets in Mackie plugs do not work properly. Changes are saved but not preset names.

Unless...the proper usage of the Mackie plugs including the new channel strip in T3 is when selecting a preset to not expect that preset name (if changed from the default preset) to be recalled when the project is saved, Tracktion restarted and the project is opened again. I don't understand this.:? Why is that not a bug?
That is how it works.
But not properly. See above.
That is not changed.
Ok...but it is surely not a feature or as intended?
What should have been fixed for T2.1 is that some users were seeing the plug-in not show the factory presets in the drop down list.
Ben

Ben I doubt you understand what I meant when I explained this bug earlier...really.

T3 is a great upgrade, I brought this up because it is quite clear that Mackie are very responsive to user comments and suggestions. As an example Multicore support was by no means confirmed or possibly even a feature at all until it was brought up by a few users (including me) on the AES thread you started.

It was added to T3 in a very short time though, which is great. This bug however remains. Please have another look at the steps I outlined to easily reproduce this and see not just that it is the way it works Ben, but surely that it is indeed a bug  that should be looked into if not now at least at a later time during the T3 product life cycle.

Nope. It is not a bug. It is just the way it works. Other plugs work this way too. I just tried Amplitube LE and it behaves the same. Basically, the plug-in saves its current parameters to the host, but not the preset name. So when it reopens, it recalls its previous state and then it lets you know that this is different then the current preset name (whatever the default is - usually acuma in our case) by showing a little * next to the name. This is because the preset name means nothing after it is recalled since you may have changed a parameter, or you have a ton of automation and all the parameters are changing. In fact, recalling the preset name can be even more confusing sometimes because the current state of the plug-in could have no parameter values in common with the preset from which you started. So it is not a bug as this is how Mackie plug-ins have worked right back to the d8b days and it was designed to work like this. Now this doesn't mean this is the best design, and it doesn't mean that we won't change it eventually based on user feedback, but it does mean that this is how it works right now and it is how it will work for the initial release of T3.0.

Ok Ben, I think I understand why you said it was not a bug. Yes it is not the best design but hey at least it is not necessarily set in stone for the future based on your comments.

Cheers Ben!

For me, it's a bug.
All other plugins behave the natural way : if you select another preset and save your song, when you reopen your song, you see this preset and not the default one.
Imagine a minute the horror it would be if all the plugins were working this way !
Amplitube 1 is not a good exemple. I have often reopen a song using Amplitube, and then was unable to remember what was this great preset I used.
Perhaps you have noticed that Amplitube 2 is working the natural way now.
I sometimes use the Final Mix and have to rename the program name to be able to remember the name of the preset. Irritating.

Now, Tracktion 3 looks fantastic, a big BRAVO to all the Mackie team.
But please, solve the Mackie Plugin bug !
Sorry for my english.

It's not forgetting the settings, it just doesn't recall the preset. If it were to recall the preset, and you had changed anything in the preset, then it wouldn't remember your changed settings. It would open with all the default settings of THAT preset, and none of your own changes.

So it saves all parameter values. And it doesn't mess up anything in your song. It is recalling everything exactly how you left it.

It's not a bug, I agree. Even though it may not seem ideal to some people.

I will say one thing. If you have a better way of it working, I'm sure that Mackie would be interested to know. They obviously listen, and would of course be open to hearing suggestions. Maybe a description of how another plugin works? Hey, it can't hurt!

Question for Beno (or any others in the know)..............

Will the licence for Amplitude LE included in the T2 boxed version, work in the online upgrade version of T3?

any help or pointers to previous posts about this much appreciated!

can't wait!

Right--that's why I like it this way.

There's a part of me that wishes there were no such thing as presets. I'm sometimes tempted to erase them all...and then I find a good one.

It's already sort of been said in this very thread:

Once you make changes to a preset, it gets a "*" next to it or the font goes italic (assuming it's non-italic to begin with), or heck, why not both. Then the "preset name" is saved as an additional parameter that gets recalled. Sure, it doesn't do anything (after all, the parameters themselves are also saved, which is the main thing!) but when the project is releaded, this "name" parameter is also recalled (recalling an italicized asterisked name). Just a text string and nothing more. No influence on the parameters, which are stored independently.

I agree that the name is less important than the parameters storing properly, though.

Ben, some questions about the Global track:

whn inserting/deleting time into a track does the global track work like the other tracks?: do tempo changes after the inserted/deleted time move?

Can tempo changes or sets of tempo changes be copied and pasted? Can Tempo maps be stored and recalled somehow?

Any changes in the way meter is handled?

Also I saw beat markers in a screen-shot - is thi simplemeted as in Live? In live 6 clips can serve as tempo masters -> possible in T3?

btw - I will be upgrading for sure - just curious about some of the details to look forward to.

thanks!

I sure hope T3 doesn't involve too many changes. I am just beginning to get used to T2 (it's taken me an inordinately long time to get use to the workflow and absence of facile output routing.) Then again I don't need to upgrade, do I?

I remember when T2 first came out. There were a LOT of people who were asking, "so what's changed...!?" even though the changes were (IMO, of course) quite substantial. It's just that they weren't so in-your-face on the surface. It looks like T3 will continue this trend.

Yes. Its designed to prevent newbies from relying on presets for their compressor and EQ settings.. ;)
I think it's called a "buggy feature"

1. I really wanted to get added but it didn't quite make it. There is some under the hood stuff that makes it more work then you'd think. Hopefully we'll be able to squeeze it in soon.

2. The tempo sections can be copied and pasted as they are on a curve just like any other automation value. You can do everything with tempo that you with other curves. Pitch and TS changes can be copy pasted with CTRL+C/V

3. They've been optimized for faster response and better performance (especially on the Mac). We also changed them to show up to +5 dB making it easier to tell overs. They can also optionally show Midi activity and we've made it easier to change meter modes.

4. Nope. It would be cool if it could though. :)
