It's already frustrating ...
Do someone knows how/ why when I record a MIDI sequence appears gray and I can't assign it to the synth ?
I'm recording the part, the synth sound, Mu.Lab records the input and when I play it back... NOTHING :(((
What am I missing ?

the free version of m3 is limited to a maximum of 4 active tracks. you have probably recorded midi to a track that is inactive due to this restriction. move the sequence to one of the first four tracks and it will work!

I don't see any advantage. Someone?
One advantage for me would be the following. I really like Synthia and understand it's way of programming. MuSynth is a little too deep for me now and I'm more a synthesis than a sampler kind of guy. But I also like to start my programming from a preset.

So I do personally prefer to use the presets of Synthia only (for instance) instead of all these different synth/sampler presets together (not knowing with what device they where made) :)

Grouping per device would be nice if you prefer to work/tweak with a particular device instead of only looking for a complete sound/patch (no matter with what device it was made). A different kind of approach sound design.

No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

IMO the way Jo organized the Presets is SIMPLE and SAFE.
Just imagine play around with third party plug-ins internal architecture from professional to Home made stuff.. :-o

Upgrades, Deletions, Free trials, Dongles, ReWire... endless!

Here is an additional point of view:
+Mulab Synths
+Presets (Mulab Synths Only)
+VST

The Mulab Synths could also have folders where you can select their presets by Category: Bass, Organs etc. as in the (All) Preset Folder.
In this way we have two ways of selecting Presets:

By category selection (I'm looking for all the Bass preset regardless of the Synth) = +Presets folder > Category Folders > Presets

By Specific Synth Category (I'm looking for the Sampla Bass or MuSynth Bass etc.) = MuLab Synths > Individual Synths > Category Folders > Presets

This seems to cover most of the Targeting way to choose a Preset.... well the most obvious I think... :ud:

Sorry Jo your last minutes are becoming endless... :bang:

That's logical to me also and have advantages of both organizing systems.
I say it's a keeper.
and a beer to liquid for the idea and one to Jo for not shooting us, the always complaining customers/ testers

Thanx, apparently this was my problem.

I am sorry, one more distinction if I may:

This means that those Preset in the "+Preset Folder" are Ghost or like windows shortcuts to the ones in the respectively Synth Creator Folders or ViceVersa.
No double work for Jo (I hope. What I'm I talking about. What do I know about coding  )

They get saved either in the +Presets Folder or in the Synths Category Folders...but they show up in the other location too. :hyper:

mutools wrote:So you think "Preset" is more common than "Patch"?
I don't think it's necessarily more common in the synthesis world.

My thinking is this: To the person with experience with synths both words will mean the same thing in this context. To the person without this experience, while they know what a preset is -- radios have 'em, microwaves have 'em, and so on -- a patch is more likely to bring to mind a piece of land or fabric for clothing repair and its metaphorical extension in the software world.

Thanks for hearing all of us out with such patience despite the incredible pace of the thread. We're just passionate about your creation!

for those of you who want to browse your vst presets like the new MuLab system there is something out there for this. The developer of Wusikstation made it, never tried it but it might be of interest.

personally I have no problem with the new preset system, i plan on changing the library around a bit but it seems kind of nice, and you could always make your own folders for Synthia, Sampla and so on right? I haven't tried it yet but my guess is the browser just reads the folder structure of the MuSynth library.

please correct me if i'm wrong before i screw something up lol

I just can't believe there haven't been more bugs Jo must have did a lot of bugsqushing before the beta testing. I think I'm about to throw the beta of Rhino at it and see what happens ;)

He Jo there is one issue I'd like to see if you couldn't help with it might be kinda dicey though I'm not sure... Rhino is in a development phase agian and there have been some changes to the GUI and on M2.7 I was getting crashes when opening Rhino's GUI consistently. Only problem is Rhino was updated to SSE2 and my CPU apparently only has SSE1 instructions (yes i know time for a new pc) so it kind of killed me being able to test it. Although it's now portable and now M3 supports MME so I can take M3 and Rhino to another computer to test as soon as I set Rhino up for relative paths. Would you be willing to work with Tick to try to get this resolved if it persists in M3? I feel there's only so much I can do besides saying "it crashed on me" and give steps.

About the patch/preset order:

Taken all feedback into account, i think finetuning it this way:

Image

So:
  • To avoid confusion between the MuSynth group and MuSynth synth, the group is named "MUTOOLS" now, which indeed tells better what it contains
  • The "Templates" subgroup is separated and renamed to "Devices"
  • "Patches" are renamed to "Presets"
Sounds ok to you?

NB: The VST library idea is certainly not for M3. I'm happy to hear there is already such tool out there.

Yep, that I can't find.

If not, the menus-below-button thing may be put on the whishlist for later implementation.
Jo
Just let me know if there is anything I can do to help with this. My Mac packed in late December so I have been out of circulation until now (New Mac arrived this week and is is just about up and running). Almost lost all the master files for LooxPhat in the process but I finally managed to rescue them from a dying hard drive! I should be able to spare some time to work on the skin towards the end of next week if you need any input from me. Happy to give feedback on M3 as well.
Thanks Calum!

I'll email you later today or tomorrow.

To me too.
I'm used to first select a plugin, and then a preset, so having plugins and presets melted is a bit confusing to me.
Having a dedicated folder for presets, apart of the plugins ones, sound good to me.
I prefer "preset" to "patch" personnally.
