@bmrzycki - Interesting...

@Breeze - Glad you're still here! And I hope you do take part in future contests. If you win again and don't feel you can accept another prize, just pass it on to the next in line (that's what I do ;) ).

And don't be put off by my arguments (I know have a tendency to *ahem* slightly over-state my case, oh well... :oops: ). If you have any more suggestions, I'd still be interested in hearing them; I'll likely agree with some and, if there are practical things that can be done, we'll give them serious consideration. :)

As long as the errors get trapped and don't cause more work, I think that's a great idea. Baby steps! :dog:

I wrote a tool tonight that creates and modifies 99% of the tedius work of running the contest. The next post here shows an example post of a voting thread. I'm open to suggestions about wording, voting, etc. If we decide to do a secret ballot with PMs I can pretty easily fix the output for that too.

Let me know what y'all think.

VOTING DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 8 2011, 14:00 UTC

TASK: Design patches suitable for ACE's "Modular Madness" category.

Voting rules:
  • All votes are appreciated, and however one decides which patches stand out is the right way. A little feedback explaining votes is very welcome as well, just keep it short and to the point.
  • The presets have not been normalized and are presented to you as they were submitted. It's up to you, the voters, to decide if a preset appeals to you (clipping, too quiet, or just right).
  • Results will be tabulated one week from the date of this post when the poll stops running.
  • The preset awarded the most overall points wins. Best of luck to all the entrants!
  • All submitted patches will be pubilically posted on the u-he Patch Library.
Notes for patch authors:
Please no hinting or saying which preset(s) are yours. Let's keep it anonymous until voting is closed. As a patch author you must vote, and you must not vote for your own preset(s)!
WARNING: If you are caught creating multiple accounts to vote for yourself you will be immediately disqualified from this and all future patch contests.

Notes for everyone else:
Anyone on KVR is welcome to vote and if you wish to do so. See "How to Vote" below for instructions.

How to vote:
Points are awarded by voters in the following manner:
  1. 1st Place -> 5 points
  2. 2nd Place -> 4 points
  3. 3rd Place -> 3 points
  4. 4th Place -> 2 points
  5. 5th Place -> 1 points
Votes by patch authors and everyone else are weighed equally. Votes must be submitted using the following template:

Code: Select all

kvr_name
1. Exact patch name A
2. Exact patch name B
3. Exact patch name C
4. Exact patch name D
5. Exact patch name E
The "kvr_name" listed above is your KVR username. Next, number your patch votes exactly as shown above (from #1 to #5 and end each number with a period '.'). Please copy the exact patch names from the Voting Tally below (everything before the colon ':'). Submitting patch votes in this exact format means my automated voting tool will understand your vote and I do not have to fix your submission. If you want to add information or reasons why you voted for particular patches please post them after the voting template.

1. Super awesome patch!+
2. Subtle patch 1
3. funnysound
4. Grows on you?
5. Wobbler13
Great patches everyone! I especially loved the XYs on Super awesome patch!+.
Prizes:
The patch author with the most votes will receive their choice of one u-he NFR (not for resale) software product.

In the event of a tie:
If 2 or more presets tie for the winning preset then the preset with the most number of votes (regardless of numerical value) wins. If there is still a tie then we enter "sudden death". For 24 more hours anyone but the final contestants can vote for ONE of the tied patches. The person with the most sudden death votes wins. If this set of votes are STILL tied after sudden death then I (user bmrzycki) will cast the final deciding vote.

Then the rules are very similar to the One-Synth-Challenge contest, except the point:
"- Voters must have had 20 prior forum posts or participated in this month's contest."

It`s not a bug... it`s a feature!

There's quite a lot to take in there. I wonder whether some of it might be better in a second post?

For example, the rule about what happens with a tied vote, or this bit: "The presets have not been normalized and are presented to you as they were submitted. It's up to you, the voters, to decide if a preset appeals to you." which seems more like voting advice rather than a 'rule', so could probably go in a second post.

I'd be tempted to go through the whole thing and just remove all but the absolutely essential info. Keep it clear, concise and to the point, that way there should be less chance that someone will miss something essential (like the new voting instructions).

Okay, here's my edit...

I've attempted to make it as clear as possible - both in terms of concision and ease on the eye. I've cut everything that didn't seem absolutely necessary (including underlines).

How about putting the voting tally and author vote list in the second post - seems a sensible idea to me?

And perhaps we could write up obscure rules, such as that for sorting out a tie, somewhere else and put a link at the end of the "Rules" section?

Post

Thanks for the input hakey! I like your revised format.

I'd still prefer to make it one post, otherwise I have to make 2 post templates and code paths in my code generator. Right now I have 1 post being made. Maybe I can place a line seperator between voting status and the rules above.

Of course, that was just a suggestion. Do whatever you think is best. :)

Post

Thanks for pointing me to this thread from the other one, hakey. The only suggestion that I had was not to count the votes and display it in the first post during the voting period. After going through this thread it seems like there are more issues. Anyway, If man-power is an issue please count me in as a volunteer. I love this contest and the community so I would like to help as much as I can.
