A database dedicated to FREE stuff.
by the way, kvr already has a wiki. use it, and when we get a "community" sub-forum assuming we do i suggest a lot of the topics should minimize the content they put in the forum posts and link in the OP to the wiki page on the topic.
discussion about the post's specific content on the wiki, or in the wiki discussion page.
discussion about the topic in the forum.
we need to remember we're operating in a 30 year-old medium here and it doesn't always apply to everything as efficiently as it could.
let's branch out a little and include all the resources available to us.
...and it's silly to limit ourselves to only free software too. any limitations are silly.
the only limitation in a "community" forum would be that you're donating something. you wouldn't be allowed to advertise your preset banks for sale because you made a list of preset banks that are for sale and justify it in that the list you made is a contribution to the community.
you would however be able to list affordable hosts and plugins whether they are free or not which are suggested for beginners.
what you probably wouldn't want to do is put this directly in your post.
what you would probably want to do is make a wiki page for this and link to it, then post asking the community to contribute to that page.

When you contacted him it was Friday evening or night in the UK, and now it's Sunday night. Give it a few business days and see what happens. If it doesn't get approved here, let me know. I can whip up a suitable Website, though I probably can't provide free hosting.ttoz wrote:Hi everyone it looks like this may be a dead end as i haven't heard a thing back from Ben.

the idea of having a sub-forum added is not really that bad. there is genuinely no place where you'd be able to gather up specifically community oriented discussion threads or initiatives and so on the way the forum is laid out now.
this thread might belong in site-stuff, if it was your plan from the beginning. the sort of thread like you did intend to post in the first place though really would belong in exactly such a sub-forum and doesn't really make sense in any other.
perhaps hpc if you include any comment about "warez" though which i would suggest is a bad idea
ben hasn't really been the kind of person who would just ignore such a suggestion. i'd think he will at least say "i think your idea is stupid and i hate you. good day sir." if that were what he really thought. worst cast he'd say he doesn't like the idea and doesn't want to bother.
i think it's a good idea though although there may be some argument that it could be redundant, it does potentially fill a void. honestly i can't really see the problem with it so i'd be very interested to hear the "why not" if there were one.

Woah! i got 27 pages to read through, Hope i can be of some use/help in some way. I am not interweb savvy at all but nevertheless the togetherness of this appeals to me and if it will really help people wanting to document their music making it can only be a good thing in my eyes. Got some catching up to do

Sorry I can't read all the pages as of know but one thing that comes to mind is all the older versions, every time we upgrade, that we are not allowed to resell, they could be given to an organization that insures they go to the right people, those that couldn't "probably" quite ever buy the full application, so no loss for the software company in short term but a possibility for a future customer able to upgrade when their financial situation improves.

if you pay less for an "update" version and it requires the old version to install or work, then that's pretty clear.
if it works fine independently then giving away the old and useless version would make perfect sense.
the only problem is that technically you do not have the right to do this, and if it were a problem it could be made dependent upon an older version quite easily.
there is a lot of effort going into eliminating second hand markets at the moment and unfortunately we'll just have to wait and see how it all works out for them. ideally you should take the stance that if you don't have the right to sell the product second hand you will not buy it.

If you sell a previous version of Reason, the buyer gets the license to all versions and your registration gets disabled. IIRC, there's just one license for all of them so you can't sell it and keep it too.liquidsound wrote:Like all my Reason versions from 2.5 up. What the heck!
A very few companies do allow selling previous licenses after using them to upgrade. I think at least one got mentioned earlier in the thread but I don't recall who.

Of course I'm aware of all these issues. Maybe I should have added to the post that it should be an act of awareness for the situation from seller not from us. This would require a rewire of the concept of updating. It is true that selling an older version to another user undermines a future profit from the software company but the other way around a buyer of an older version (at a great reduced price from the seller) could eventually become a new (long term?) customer for the software company buying a regular upgrade. A kind of back door entrance to the software that it may have not happened before, due to the initial fee of a full version.
For this topic, this system above, should be directed at the less fortunate (upon some kind of verification process) giving the opportunity for the receiver to become potentially a new customer . In that case it's hard to see a real loss for the software company.
I'm quite sure that even Edward DeBono (Surpetition) would agree on these lines.
And to add, I wanted to give away to some friends my old Reason versions for free until I read the not so fine prints.....
And guess what, those friend haven't got Reason yet and probably they never will due to the cost of the full version.
Now, isn't that a loss for Propellerhead in the long run?
I understand FL.....
