i think what we can conclude from the poll results is that reaper users are the least educated and most arrogant.

if you ask me I think this thread has run it's course
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

plus one, here, let's get this party finished off

I think that's a good point. I use a lot of CPU intensive instruments an effects (Bazille, Diva, Reaktor, etc.) and some effects I use on every channel (McDSP Channel G) on projects with tons of channels. I have not had to worry about CPU overages in a number of years. I know I don't speak for everyone in that regard but in general, even the cheapest modern computers are fast enough to handle real-time audio at low latencies, no matter which DAW you use.

Down at Reaper HQ all 69 of us are having a good rub down with alcohol after a weeks campaigning for our DAW. It feels good to run with the herd and shout our name loud and clear for all to hear. Now all we need to do is get rid of Obama and Romney and world domination is ours.

I edited out the potential hpc stuff :hihi:

has anyone really tested this though? i've seen claims in this thread that reaper manages threading more efficiently which is certainly possible. there are a lot of stupid things you can do (flushing the cache, etc) and if reaper does things correctly it could easily beat out other hosts that simply do them wrong.

when voting though is that what people are referring to? i've been assuming the majority of the votes have been "yeah reaper has the most efficient work-flow" without bothering to read the thread or understand the question. (thus: "least educated and most arrogant.")

just having a chain of plugins in the same channel i'm not able to measure any over-head at all. as it should be. in my own code if i chain several plugins one after the other 99.9+ percent of the time is spent inside the plugin code, not the host.

it's just a really silly poll.

I had a rant about that, then realized there was no need.

Convince yourself of whatever you want to believe. You will anyways.

well i don't want to believe anything because i really don't care much no matter what the truth is. i'm only curious :)

there is rarely a point in trying to have any sort of discussion with someone about a topic they do not understand.

i think i get to see the issue a little differently through my access to a little insight into the technical aspects.

Now did anybody bother to actually compare Logic and Reaper CPU wise?
Because in my experience Logic beat the crap out of every other DAW this way, and I would be surprised if it was any different with Reaper?

I only have Logic 8, but I could test it later tonight if people want. Typically I've just loaded a track with a fairly heavy synth like Absynth and put the exact same patch on every track until you get crackles in the audio. Disc streaming and the like are all pretty dammed good across the board; it's really about CPU use IMO.

Plus, it's pretty sad that anybody would vote for Live. I'm a user and fan, but it's a CPU pig due to the real time nature of the program and shouldn't even be in the 'contest'.

very small rocks?

How could I compare logic? It's not PC :hihi:

Seriously though when I used logic, it hogged one core and left the other largely untouched. Hopefully, that has been changed (I was the fabulous and inexpensive 7.2.3  :x )

Anyways, reap is the lightest/least intrusive host there is......feel free to dl it and check for yourself. I look forward to the results......regardless.

Its fairly well known that Cubase on Mac isnt as efficient as on PC. Therefore all DAWs would need to be assesed on Mac and PC. Quite a task. IMHO it seems that some DAws suit certain plugs better than others.
