Really? KVR ignores a new compressor plugin practically completely?

This is weird. According to mystran's homepage he has released this like two weeks ago and apart from an entry in the product database I didn't find anything here about it, not even in the signaldust forum. Talk about antiviral marketing!
Seeing that many new plugins here are greeted with multi page threads even before they are even released, this is odd...

OK, this is not a freeware as the other signaldust stuff but goes for €25 intro price, but it has a very liberal demo with only some slight noise every couple of minutes or so, and after a quick test run I like that it can do mean things to drums.
Also, nice usable GUI (maybe a tad too small), pretty color and all the features one expects nowadays from a compressor plugin.
My only point of criticism would be the indication of the ratio in percent, this is quite unusual and takes a bit getting used to. Not sure why one would prefer it over the commonly used ratio display.

What does the "range" control do? :?:

Post

It limits the amount of possible gain reduction, so no matter how hard you push the compressor, no more than the allowed amount of compression will be applied to the signal. I am no expert using it, but say you found a nice aggressive setting you like but you don't want to compress the signal too much, use the range control.

The manual explains it way more professionally :)

Compressors are a dime a dozen around here even if they do release something super different.

Isn't the dev's job to promote his products? Is this a case of the dev getting shunted by KVR, or maybe he didn't bothered to contact KVR to publish the news and he's just waiting for a buyer to do it instead? Just sayin'...

I didn't try it to the extent of I don't have OpenGl. I don't start threads anymore, because then I'd have to maintain it a bit and there'd be pages of gui talk, and nothing about audio.

Windows-only, from a no-name developer, and no promotion of any kind. Unless you have a throng of loyal customers, attention won't come until you attract it. :)

It's by mystran, and KVR news articles are only ever posted (or supposed to be) by the authors/companies/marketing themselves.

I just released something I won't mention and KVR ignored that too. Of course, it isn't KVR's job (what is KVR? Ben?) to sleuth around identifying the latest insignificant plugin news and posting it here with megahuge flashing blink tags.

That is the job of obsessed forum users. :hyper:

Just post and run.

People won't think any less of you. Well, less than they thought of you before.

By 'you' I mean 'one'.

:-)

I start threads and disappear forever. Trollish behaviour by some.

I think you have enough in the bank to be excused any odd or eccentric behaviour RBR.

People move on. In their own minds. What might be a burning issue that you just spent three weeks researching without washing/eating, might be worth a post/response. But the next day you might just want to get on with your life/have a wash/something to eat.

No one has to explain themselves to anyone here at KVR. I believe the measure of a man can be ascertained over time.

I've had bad days/bad weeks/bad months/bad years/bad life :-)

You are a pretty self contained guy. I appreciate that. You might think I am some low life blow hard boor by my posts. And I get that too. In real life I shrink, am shy, piss people off because I don't talk/interact. It's only the webs. I think I'm not alone when I say, I would love to hear your input, whatever you can give. It will be relished and cherished.

Now, feel free to ignore/not respond. I won't be offended. We have that right too on the webs. If I took offence to being ignored, I would have given up this game long ago. Still I persist. A thousand reads tells you something. And it also tells you something else, which might be a bad thing.

There I go again. Off on one. Apologies. I take a measured consideration and decision whether to post or not. Knowing that many will think less of me. Most will just understand. And some will even think more.

I don't court controversiality. But I don't shy from it.

I've always found you to be to the point and relevant. Unlike me.

It takes all sorts. And if you are reading and have something to offer, then do it.

Just my little take.

Mystran also makes the mighty Tila. The best small room reverb ever invented.

Well for free at least, I have found nothing better.

It is uncanny. You just can not hear this reverb. It is totally invisible. It's just not there. Until you take it off. Quite a few people know about it. But many more do not. I wouldn't say they are ignoring it.

It is boutique stuff. Small niche. Those that know, Know!

His stuff is 'for the love of'. It is not marketed and hyped. But he has many many fans. Time to hit that donate button!

Most of everything gets ignored. And the worst of it is the 20,000 hit stuff, that no one responds to because, oh well, no one else does.

There is being ignored and there is being ignored.

Never take insult. Even when it can be taken. Even more so when it is actually implied.

You are pretty laid back for the most part, aciddose, and that only goes in your favour.

Hark at me telling everyone how they are and where they come from and what they should do! Little Buddha in me is crying out - be careful!

God forbid anyone dissected or analysed my behaviour.

I would not call Mystran a no-name dev. He is probably involved in more (free) projects than a lot of other devs from this board. He is very helpful and helped other devs solving some tricky stuff for their plugs. Take a look into the dsp section.

And his free plug-ins are all excellent. I lately fell in love with SWEEP which is a supersmooth morphing filter. I use it mostly for highpassing stuff right now because I really like the timbre of it. All his plugs are running super tight and without a flaw. His Analyzer is my goto choice for sound design. His reverbs are in my top 5 free reverb list. His BBD chorus is the shit. So clean and transparent. His eq sounds very pleasent too. I started using his old cipper plug in lately and really like what I hear so far. Unfortunately have not spend enough time with his new low latency IR Reverb.

I totally forgot about this comp. Thanks to the OP again I will spend some time next week and give it a shot.

What I was pointing out when I said "it's by mystran" was the fact he doesn't push his plugins very much. I think they deserve a little more push, especially the schematic entry and circuit simulator he has been working on. That one I can see far more application and importance than any other sort of plugin.

That said though when you do this because of your own interests both the forums and other sorts of interaction with an audience can feel like interference in your process. So I can guess some of the reasons that might be.

Maybe some fans here in the forum could email or message him to ask whether he'd be okay with them writing news on KVR on his behalf, or posting threads in the forum?
