Well, if that's the case the new users better REALLY like Marshall tones or else they're hosed.

It's not the quantity of amps, it's the lack of versatility. How about this for 5 starter amps:

1. Fender Twin or JC120 (for cleans)
2. AC30 or Bassman (for clean to dirty)
3. Brit Plexi (for classic Marshall)
4. JCM 800 (for modern-ish Marshall)
5. Triple Rectifier/Engl/Bogner (one of those for modern high gain)

At least there, it's more than just Marshall tones. Look at S-Gear, it's 5 amps, all covering different amps/tones. 5 flavors of Marshall isn't the most versatile setup in the world. I'm a Fender amp guy personally (in fact, my Twin Amp is in the shop now getting some much needed repairs).

I'm definitely in the less is more camp myself, but it's gotta be a nice cross section of amps if you're going that route.

That said, we are definitely considering additional collections or similar where a new user could have a broad yet well-defined set of "starter" gear (as well as other types of collections to suit different needs of different users).
I hear you. So, why not allow the NEW user to tailor their own set of things they would like to have in the basic package for $149? Give them a number of points that would allow them to have, say, 10 amps, 10 stomps, 10 rack effects, 10 of each. Something like that. Why not?
They can do that now... Buy the Gear Credit pack (with bonus credits from the promote posted above) and get what you want.
So, additional cost to the $149 entry price ($99 intro notwithstanding)? Not what I was talking about. I was talking about having that deal with 10 of each FOR the $149 entry price. Or, 5 of each, if you will.

To the topic of the previous two posts: Yes, I understand and 1) that's why a "starter" collection would be considered as mentioned and 2) Why it isn't all that hard to "get" Custom Shop and get what you want... I'm sure new users can make their way through Custom Shop. Again, this is basically why it exists. They have their choice of what to get and it is really easy to try and buy the gear.

if you buy e.g. Amplitube Fender today, are these still AT3, or will they have AT4 included (but without the marshalls)?

And for the $250 you save over the original price of AT3, you can get all you'd need.

They are part of AmpliTube Custom Shop which is currently 3.x and will not automatically have AmpliTube 4 included. The only path to AmpliTube 4 now is the preorder we are currently offering: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/amplitube4

Also, does anyone know if that Electric==>Acoustic sim will also be a separate Custom Shop offering? I didn't see it in the "new" stomp section with the other new gear.

You should already see it in your account even if you have not yet received the email. You should have 20 additional JamPoints to use toward AmpliTube 4 in your account since this morning, as you do qualify.

You will not see the acoustic sim in Custom Shop as it is AmpliTube 4 specific and is included as part of the product.
No jam points here either, are you still working on everyone's accounts?

So 20% off for customers. Very nice, thank you.
What is the total of Jampoints that we are allowed to use toward this $99 purchase?

So many plugins, so little time...

So I've owned the Orange amp collection since 2013 and I just bought the Mesa collection. Does that qualify me for any kind of loyalty discount? Just asking because I've seen no email or bonus credits in my account. It'd be nice to know where I stand before I do any pre-ordering. Thanks.

They would have been in there since this morning, Italy time. If you have registered AmpliTube 3 before September 2012, you should have 20 JamPoints added to your account.

If you have gear from AmpliTube Custom Shop / AmpliTube 3 and purchase AmpliTube 4 that gear and cabinets will work in the AmpliTube 4 cab section. You can use all of the new features including swapping speakers where available (cabinets with 12" speakers). I just threw a couple of Greenbacks into an Orange 212, for example.
so, let's say AT4 has speaker X included, and speaker Y in the custom shop. let's say i own a cabinet C that has speakers Y installed by default. does that mean i automatically own speaker Y? or does the cabinet C end up with speaker X installed by default instead?

(that of course presumes it is at all possible to purchase speakers individually, as opposed to having them attached to particular cabinets)
You can mix and match all the speakers available including those in the cabs you already have and which work in AT4. In my example, I swapped out the default speakers from the Orange 212, but I could also swap them into another cabinet if I wanted to.
So all the existing cabs in all the collections were remodeled for AT4? This would means the same patch in AT4 and AT3 will have sonic differences.

The whole cab section is new, in a huge way. That's a large part of the new version, which is a completely new version so indeed all patches from AT3 will most definitely have sonic differences. This is also a reason why it is a completely new version that runs alongside the previous.
