Yes, exactly - even though this pretends to be an acoustic performance it is highly artificial, plasticy, over-the-top, dishonest

Haters gonna hate, I loved that version of Lost. And there's nothing wrong with the use of reverb in both those examples, such reverb setups are very common in trance and it's part of what makes trance vocals sound the way they do (love it or hate it...).

Personally I still love ArtsAcoustic Reverb and more recently NI's RC48 and RC24 which are both fantastic. ArtsAcoustic has the best sounding modulation of any reverb I have heard while RC48 in particular is so open and just great for simulating halls imho.

Of course, VVV is also a favourite but that's not part of this thread :)

Exactly my point! :tu:

Sorry, that expression peaked long ago and is now officially considered dorky: https://www.google.com/trends/explore?d ... %20hate%22

Thankfully, I don't care if I'm considered a dork, the expression holds true here. People on this forum have it in for trance lovers and their hate is simply unnecessary and disrespectful. If you don't like it, don't listen to it ... done!

TBH, i stopped caring about that really. It's just like that, some people are not able to enjoy making, and listening to their favorite music, without stomping on others.

Not wanting to grant me the liberty of expressing my opinion as it conflicts with your personal (highly questionable  :hihi:) taste and subsequently calling me "a hater" is what I would consider disrespectful. I generally don't hate b.t.w. .

So, this is a thread about reverbs we like. You're making it about a genre you think you hate. Focus, grasshopper.

I like some of the qualities of the reverbs present in the two videos I posted. I was hoping to hear some discussion on the reverb.

I WAS discussing the reverb all the time, in case you didn't realize.

For starters, What you HEAR has got nothing to do with what you SEE.

If other people don't realize what you're trying to communicate, there is a problem with your communication.

Did you have anything to say about the reverb examples I posted, other than you hate them because you think you hate Trance?

I thought I made that clear in my first post after the first video you linked to... :?

you then posted another one where the reverb sounds just as dreadfully (!!!IMO!!! Get it?) over the top (actually it's the whole vocal production), which then made me say something along the lines of "hey, if you're into trance this will be right up your alley, so what could I say?" but obviously you didn't get it at all and obviously you still don't get it (typical fanboi behaviour, I'm inclined to say) - this is NOT trying to be an unplugged performance, it is NOT at all trying to evoke the atmosphere the title and the video suggest.

But why do you ask? you are apparently not interested in opinions other than "this sounds amazing" anyway...

Finding myself reaching for Blackhole instead of Vintage Verb a lot because with VV I always end up tweaking for ages whilst Blackhole sounds incredible straight on the default patch (sometimes I hardly need to delve any further).

I would encourage folks to post things that they DO like, instead of talking about how they DON'T like certain sounds. Honestly, we could all use some positive discussions in 2016.

As far as the videos in question, they might violate the terms posted in the subject of this thread, but I'm gonna let that slide. :D

I have an Eventide Space pedal, which might as well be called the Blackhole pedal. At least for how I use it. Judging from a lot of synth demo videos out there, I am not alone in this. :D

Speaking of pedals, my favorite reverb algorithms from the pedal world:

- Blackhole, from Eventide Space/H9.

- Bloom, from Strymon Big Sky. It sounds like it uses a Blackhole-type algorithm for the attack phase of the reverb, running into a different type of reverb for the decay.

- Cloud, from Strymon Big Sky. A variant of the allpass loop "hall" reverb, but really nicely done.

- Hall, from Strymon Flint. I'm not sure why this 3 parameter algorithm (mix, decay, tone) sounds so good, but it sounds really really good. It has just the right amount of low frequency roll-off as it decays away, and the modulation is "just right."

Guilty as charged.

But to my defense I'll say that you wrote that more than four years ago. In the meantime it had completely slipped my mind - my apologies.
