I tend to use v3's dither rather than Ableton's, for one thing it helps ensure i don't end up with a clipped master. Also, there are many times when i prefer to record the output direct to another channel rather than render. The noise shaping seems to be useful for preserving transients too (although i realise this may be completely imagined).

Are these both really absent?
As far as I can tell, dithering is not included in Barricade v4. For that I guess you now want TB Dither, which will give you more control over dithering than Barricade v3 ever gave.

Does someone know how to setup tbdither the right way? Barricade v3 is a set and forget, but I don't wanna distroy my audio. Vojtech from Meldaproductions has the opinion you don't need dither at all.

Dithering for 16 bit is essential. There's plenty of youtube vids demonstrating why, the guy from AirWindows has devoted a lot of time to it. FWIW, i'd probably just output from Barricade v4 at 0.1dB less than usual then run v3 as a dither plugin. Seems a little unnecessary though, would much prefer to have it all in the same package. Even the maximiser from Ozone has the dither feature built into it's separate plugin.

I'm not objecting to the fact that i don't qualify for upgrade since v4 is so well priced, but v4 + TBDither, well now the cost is mounting up.

Ultimately, i'm concerned that a major update of a plugin i use frequently has had two significant features removed, both of which i use. When iZotope do this, people complain. That's not what i want to do here, it would just be nice to know the rationale behind this decision at least.

It might be because ToneBoosters have a dedicated dithering plugin already so they removed the overlap. Personally I never dither inside the DAW. I stay 48k/32-bit on export and do my final silence edits, fades, samplerate reduction (44.1k) and finally bitrate dithering (16-bit) in another program: RX5. You get a whole lot more options on the noiseshaping of the dither etc too in RX5 but the differences we are talking about here (between dither types) is so small as to be totally pointless to discuss :)

Since the only worthwhile audio editor i have is Audacity, i really am better off staying in my DAW. RX5 is on my shopping list but its a long way off, unless iZotope do a silly upgrade deal from the RX plugin pack (which will prob make me suspicious RX6 is on the way), its out of my budget right now.

Also, having worked on a number of remaster projects lately, it's useful to have all the tracks of an album in one session so i can work on it as a whole. Barricade sits on the group channel along with any analysis tools.

I still haven't demoed this yet but from what i can see, there's no manual control for multiband amount or stereo link. I see the latter has an automatic thing built in, which i expect to be a better option and the "Improved quality for short release times and bass-heavy content" may well be superior to the previous system too so i'm remaining open minded here. Guess i'll just have to give it a go and find out.

They did, amigo! It was $150 (not including extra JRRshop discount) last year.

Yeah, i missed that. I only got the plugin pack recently anyway. Hopefully they'll repeat it again this year some time.

Looks like v4.01 is coming for us with new limiter mode!! Coooool!!

Oooh nice. Any sign of the "monitor" option?

Post

+1 on Monitor button like in V3.

Just purchased the Track Essentials bundle, after having used TB-Reverb BE for a long time now. I think it sounds great, so, i'm sure the other plugins are just as great (i used Time Machine once, and found it pretty cool too). Also happy that they don't come with a installer, but in a package, and you can just throw the DLL's in your plugin folder, and activate the trials with a key. :tu: Don't think you can beat 20 € for the bundle in terms of price/performance ratio either...

Just downloaded the 4.1 update for barricade. Some nice enhancements including saturation emulators and dithering.....

There's already 4.1.1

I am using some Toneboosters plugins for some years now and everything is great (Especially TB fix is non-replaceable).
I was using Barricade CM until now for a limter, because i have Ozone 5 too.
But i am demoing Barricade 4 and i found it phenomenal, so i will buy it in a while.
The perfect tool for the mix bus with the tape/analog saturation, and the compressor.
And the new GUI is great too. (very similar to the Valhalla btw)

And for any of you that don't know, Jeroen is really a scientist with phD.
You can find in his site numerous scientific publications, books, and a lot of patents too.
And he's always been 110% helpful with support for his plugins.
