Yeah i've been looking at this plugin for some time but never tried it. I feel like i would be paying £200 for a professional grade noise reduction, when i'm really only looking for special fx, which reafir and dtblkfx give us for free. But maybe i'll go for it if i see it on sale.

One question though, i'm guessing it has latency, so does it give us the ability to set the latency to a number that makes sense musically?
For example, in dtblkfx we can set the delay to 1 beat, 2 beat, 4 beat etc, which allows to have a large enough buffer size to create really smooth etheric sounds (you know the extreme pre-ringing effect), but without the latency that such a process normally gives, because the plugins delay times covers that.
With this technique, it means all you have to do is take everything that's going to be processed through the plugin, and shift it one beat to the left, and everything is perfectly in sync, no matter how large your buffer size.

I know i can do this sort of thing with mspectral delay, but that's kinda awkward, because once you set the buffer size to 16384, it then adds that on top of the delay time you specify.

Hope i'm making sense, and it could be that i just need to learn spectral delay a bit better

Hmmm, are you talking about the delay or MSpectralDynamics? It can do al sorts of stuff, the noise reduction is just one application found a long time after the original release :D.

As for the latency, I'm afraid that's just not possible. Besides the fact that it would need to adjust every time the tempo is changed (and the tempo can be automated in good hosts), it needs to be 2^n, which quite limits the possible values :D. I quite don't understand it anyways, the latency needs to be compensated by the host, otherwise it just is what it is, a delay you don't want.

Yes but the way dtblkfx does it is this:

You can select a delay time (lets say 1/4), and then when you open the dropdown to select the buffer size, only a certain number of buffer sizes will be available.
So if you want to use a very large buffer size like 16000 or 32000 (which normally creates a lot of latency) you will have to increase the delay time to 1 beat or 2 beats, and then the large buffer sizes will be available.
Now the beauty of this system is that you can have all the benefits of a large buffer size, but with zero latency!
And this is because the plugin doesn't need to create latency to process the audio. It processes in the delay time space you have specified (1 beat, 2 beat etc).
Now to have something like that with melda modulators and a graphic interface like spectral dynamics / reafir, would probably be close to my dream fx plugin

I'm really lost here... How does this get you zero latency??? It may be useful for some extremely rare creative effects, ALL of which would actually be delays. Or am I missing something???

Yes, technically you would call it a delay, but if you remember my original post, i said that if the delay is set to 1 beat, then you could shift all the audio that is processed by the plugin 1 beat to the left, and everything is perfectly in sync.
Anyway, don't worry about it. I'll just have to keep waiting and watching

Aaaaha, so it's not for Live use, it's for recording, while having it on? I must say it's rather obscure imho :o. Personally for that I simply disable all latency inducing plugins when recording, Cubase has a handy button that does that for all plugins in the project.

Sorry, but for me this would be nightmare. Aside from the fact that I think I already have plenty DAWs in the market to choose from, having a single supplier for all plugins would not be any fun. IMHO, of course.
