All of which fuels my interests in music and producing.
I upgraded from V3, and I'm having a blast. It's fantastic.
If I hadn't upgraded to V4 from V3, I would probably be willing to pay $199 to get to V6. Since I did, I'm not. I like the Buchla, the CMI, and the Synclavier, but it's not like I don't have a metric assload of inspirational tools. New toys can wait.
This is a very mature attitude - one, alas, that I am not always able to muster. Gimme, gimme, gimme ... :hyper:

Back from superbooth and i can tell you....

Yes still interested in the 3 new synths but the 2 arturia guys were such marketing puppets and bullshitting marketing shit and telling they support also v5 etc i could have punched against the wall....

Personal offer blabla. Cpu optimized great blabla and so on. I just then followed them but i could feel how uncomfortable my questions were for them lol

Gonna necro this thread for a sec with a DX7 question. I'm going though Dr. Chowning's book (FM Synthesis and Applications), and example 5.9 calls for Operator 2 to be set to a ratio of 0.68. How is that done? You can't set the coarse ratio to 0.0, so would setting it to 0.50 and the fine tune to 18 be equivalent? Strangely this isn't covered in Arturia's manual.

If you click in Ctrl while moving the ratio, you can achieve a finer resolution, which will allow you to have a ratio of 0.68 (do it in Overview).

Oh, cool. I knew about that in the fine tuning window but didn't try it in the coarse one. Thank you!

50% off of this from NI right now. Worth it compared to other synths out there right now?

what a joke, no upgrade is discounted.

Absolutely worth it. :tu:

Upgrades from most companies are usually separate sales, and on a different schedule compared to new sales.

Post

Except this price is the same price as the upgrade... and that is hard for people like me who have upgraded to every new version since V2 (except to V6).

And their upgrade for V6 does not go on sale. Just really bad form.

And yes it is worth $250. Would have loved to have paid just that much for it. I am in for about $700 in all after initial price and upgrades for just V5. So V6 for about a third of that? Sure.

Post

Ya - just checked and it says my 'special offer' to upgrade to 6 from 5 is $249.
Not such a special offer I think, and certainly not what I consider a sale price.

I shudder to think how much I've got into Cubase though.
I've been using it for over 30 years, and currently have all of the versions.

Where do you see that?

In my billing history for the last three upgrades I bought :scared:

6 came out last December, 5 was... okay that was in May '16 but 4 was in December '14

Just a joke really but I dunno what other synths they'd cover at this point... Elka Synthex, Polivoks maybe, or an E-mu Emulator?

(edit: By the way the right-click doesn't work for the coarse tuning, only fine. I was able to complete the exercise using KQ Dixie on an iPad.)

Post

So I made the patch in KQ Dixie (with OP2's ratio at 0.68), imported it into DX 7 V and... weird. DX 7 V reports a coarse tune of 0.50 and a fine tune of 0.36. I suppose what's happening is that since the interval between 0.5 and 1 is a half, you have to halve the effect of the fine tune, so it becomes 0.50 + (0.36/2) = 0.68. Not terribly intuitive :/

I looked at this once as well, I think that they are close to an 18 month cycle. I would expect 7 out in the spring or summer of next year.
