I do wish they'd pay attention to the arranger and linear recording for a bit. IMHO, they lose more customers there than anywhere. And over such easily fixable and augmentable issues.

Better report it to the email and with the info he asks for here (bottom of the page):

I'm sorry I didn't read the thread what has happened in the last 5 pages, so maybe someone said this already, but I was able to make video sync work on Windows with MTC-sync and a Windows software called http://www.mtcvideoslave.at/. I used a free software called LoopMidi to make a virtual midi port between these. Based on my initial tests, it works fine.
However, I wrote an email to mtc developer and haven't received a reply yet. I'm not really sure if that software is being developed anymore and if there's even a possibility to purchase it anymore. It's a 30 day trial and that sucks if you can't buy it anymore.

Yeah, I never wanted to invest in mtcvideoslave since it seemed to be rather dead.
And since Vidplay (see one page back) is a new and currently free VST which needs even less hassle than external video sync (which yes, works now great too) I think it's the best solution ATM. It loads pretty much every format under the sun so beats even some internal video solutions in other DAWs.
Cheers,
Tom

Thanks for the VidPlay-tip, much smoother to have the plugin inside each project than rely on external synced software. Seemed to work great!ThomasHelzle wrote:Yeah, I never wanted to invest in mtcvideoslave since it seemed to be rather dead.

VidPlayVST now supports video encoding in Windows DAWs. Producers can compose in sync to video and then render out a new version dubbed with the new soundtrack.

I don't really understand the need for video editing to be baked inside a DAW.
Bitwig Studio is a DAW, in which the letter A stands for "audio". Video editing has no place in such programs. I almost guarantee that this feature will trigger a further feature creep like no other, and will most probably turn Bitwig Studio into a shitty video editor with some pretty cool music creation capabilities.
In any case, if there's a need for scoring a video track, then there are existing solutions like VidPlayVST and xjadeo. Both are free on Linux, the former also works on Win+Mac and the latter is even open source.
I'm not really into video editing, but if so many users desperately want to combine Bitwig Studio with a video editor, then I'd think it would be relatively trivial to implement timecode syncing with other video editors?
Anyway, sorry for this rant and I hope you have a nice day.

I don't care about video editing... I have video editing software for that. Would be useful to have SMPTE time code support in Bitwig and ability to pin audio events to it.wavedigit wrote: Sat Nov 17, 2018 6:35 pm I don't really understand the need for video editing to be baked inside a DAW.

This thread was never about Video editing, but doing things like soundtracks for film and video where you need moving images synchronised to your audio to be able to put the right sounds at the right point in time.
So you can relax wavedigit
Blackmagic Resolve does all I need in the video editing department (it's quite capable for audio too but not a real DAW).
And yes, +1 for SMPTE as a choice for how time is displayed.
Cheers,
Tom

Fair enough, though as I've said requests for video editing features will probably not be too far off once users get a video track, because "hey, I wish I could chop this video up and alter its properties" is just very useful to have when working with video.ThomasHelzle wrote: Sun Nov 18, 2018 9:32 am This thread was never about Video editing, but doing things like soundtracks for film and video where you need moving images synchronised to your audio to be able to put the right sounds at the right point in time.

If I'm understanding correctly, the SMPTE is a way to embed digital representation of time into audio. So for example BWS could be the transport master as it were, and then send the SMPTE audio timecode to a video editor and that video editor would sync the transport? So for example if you'd play from the 23rd second in the BWS arranger, the video editor would also start playing from the 23rd second. Am I somewhat in the ballpark on this one?ThomasHelzle wrote: Sun Nov 18, 2018 9:32 am And yes, +1 for SMPTE as a choice for how time is displayed.

I would already be happy if BWS would have a way to show SMPTE as an alternative to Beats and Bars in the arranger so we don't have to do awkward calculations to find out what actual time events occur at...
But one can always burn timecode into the video itself as a workaround for now with vidplay.
Sync can already be done with Midi timecode or link if the editor supports it.
Cheers,
Tom

Sure... such requests are inevitable... but that is not a reason to implement or not implement a particular feature.wavedigit wrote: Sun Nov 18, 2018 7:04 pm Fair enough, though as I've said requests for video editing features will probably not be too far off once users get a video track, because "hey, I wish I could chop this video up and alter its properties" is just very useful to have when working with video.

I'd argue that adding unnecessary features is a burden not only for devs, but may also (albeit indirectly) affect users as well.pdxindy wrote: Sun Nov 18, 2018 8:18 pmSure... such requests are inevitable... but that is not a reason to implement or not implement a particular feature.wavedigit wrote: Sun Nov 18, 2018 7:04 pm Fair enough, though as I've said requests for video editing features will probably not be too far off once users get a video track, because "hey, I wish I could chop this video up and alter its properties" is just very useful to have when working with video.
As new features usually add more complexity to the codebase, they also increase the chance of bugs (which may or may not be confined to the (sub)system the features were implemented in).
In this specific case, I do see merit in the feature @ThomasHelzle mentioned. I see a little less merit for adding a video track since there are known workarounds and I see absolutely no merit for video editing capabilities (but luckily that wasn't the subject of the feature request).
Personally, if there's a workaround I can use which doesn't hamper my workflow too much, then I'd go with that route.
