I'm extremely happy to see Protoverb as native M1 build now. This thing is such a gem of a Reverb plugin! Thank you U-He team for these amazing updates!

Top notch work, as always. I appreciate the improved contrast in Hive's Izmo UI.

What does 'improved resource management for better performance' mean regarding Hive ?

In practical terms, it means simple presets (using less modules) can use significantly less CPU than previous versions. In some cases I found 50% lower CPU for the same preset.

Modules ? At what level are you talking about... Are talking about something along the lines of Hive's inner workings such as like that of a Reaktor setup bypassing nodes which are not required to produce the same signal or something at surface level that the user has control of ?

If an LFO isn't used in a preset, it will be put into bypass automatically. If you drag that LFO onto the scope, it'll show a flat line and the Label will show, e.g. "LFO 1 (inactive)". The same goes for oscillators, sub oscillators, filters, envelopes, anything.

This happens completely automatically, there's no interaction required on the user's side.

I'll add that such automated resource management is very common in complex plug-ins. It's not so common - if not unnecessary - in very simple plug-ins. Hive V1.0 clearly started out on latter side of the spectrum - it required only very basic resource management (e.g. unused effects are put to sleep). But I guess with wavetable synthesis Hive approached a threshold that was ultimately crossed with the new filter types in V2.1.

And when we did it, we went all in. The way this works in Hive is rather extreme now, and it was a non-trivial task to get there.

And the results are impressive!

There's been a few topics about it. Because of the amount off work going into this, we want to host it ourselves. But because Amazona asked for exclusivity until the end of this year, we're going to schedule an update early next year.

If you say so, Hive was never that hungry for me; I use it in every track but mostly monophonic and or low voice count patches, plus I bounce a lot of stuff as I go. I'm happy that overheads are lower for other users though and maybe people will stop complaining that it's not as efficient as claimed in the marketing spiel, maybe
