I am sure it will sound stunning but I am worried about the cpu hit ,chipsynth md was already a hitter on my ( old ) pc

This should probably get its own thread. Few are going to look at page 50 in the What's Up At Plogue thread. I will not be making it because my heart hurts too much as I pull out my card to buy it.

i think it's been that way with the past few chipsynths, too, that the demo took some time after release to appear on their site. just gotta be patient for a bit, i think.gentleclockdivider wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 5:38 pm No demo version ?

I understand. Both are CPU hitters. Making standard FM code usually takes barely any CPU at all.gentleclockdivider wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 5:38 pm No demo version ?

But even after plenty of optimization, our emu cores still have to emulate lots of quirks and resample audio from the emulated rates.

As much as I love only having one thread to 'watch', it makes sense.briefcasemanx wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 5:44 pm This should probably get its own thread. While I don't necessarily doubt that, this comment feels a bit biased. Have you tried DX7 V? Have you tried OPS7? Have you done extensive tests? Done any blind tests? Have you also done these in conjunction with the the real Yamaha DX7? Your statement feels more like an assumption based on Plogue being Plogue, and Arturia being Arturia, and has nothing to do with the involved products.Lucastyle wrote: Sun Sep 19, 2021 4:10 pm Arturia is nowhere near Plogue's level of Chip emulation as you can see in multiple youtube videos, while Aturia's effort it's a good one and the synth a sure brings you to the ball park it's not bit accurate as Plogue synths are.

The Arturia dx7 sounded the most accurate from a video someone posted in here. I'm sure the Plogue is even better, but the Arturia was surprisingly good.
I'm guessing if the Plogue version is properly advertised it'll sell very well.
Edit: I made a thread for the new synth. It physically hurt me to do so.

I am currently demoing Chipsynth MD and I have some questions/issues about your plugins in general:
1) Why do we have to install some kind of engine on the C-drive (in a not selectable folder)?
Is this really necessary? Couldn't you just put everything into the plugin itself?
My issue with stuff like this is, that from time to time I need to reinstall my computer, and it's an absolute pain to reinstall every single audio plugin. So I really like portable ones, which do not need to be reinstalled but just reactivated.
(The worst is, when stuff like presets are put into the documents folder .. or even worse AppData, etc. ... gladly that's not the case here I think.)
2) Is there any way to change the knob behaviour?
All of the plugins I use, turn their knobs only with up-down-movement.
Yours use up-down + left-right, which makes it very hard for me to use.
I know everybody has their preferences, but I remember, some plugins also let you switch stuff like this.
For the last few days I was getting deeper into the details of retro FM chips (I love the sound of OPL2/OPL3, DX7 and of course the Megadrive) and already tested some decent free plugins.
However I'd gladly pay for getting better interfaces and top accuracy. I'd probably buy OPS7, chipsynth MD, chipsynth PortaFM, chipcrusher and maybe even some of the other plugins.
Only thing keeping me from doing that at the moment are those 2 issues.
(I mean, I might be able to live with this engine-stuff ... but the knob-turn-behaviour is really killing it for me at the moment.)
I don't expect, that you change your plugins for just one person, but still wanted to let you know.
Maybe I am not the only one.
Oh.
And could you please give a bit more time than just 4 minutes in your demos?
This is really super short for a synthesizer, where you can easily work on a patch for half an hour.

Hello Nokenoku
The behavior is shared with all our products which lead us to the shared framework thing.
We've always used the shared framework approach (since 2008 with our ARIA engine and now with its successor - Fermata). Its something that works great for us and speeds up development/support/drm a lot. This allows the VST/AU/AAX and soon CLAP folders to only contain a lightweight binary that only contains the plugin-api specifics and not a duplicate of all the assets, UI file, presets etc, as a Host developer as well, we do not want to sgrind a VST folder that contains anything else than dlls.
As far as demo time we've been through this and I prefer not saying more. You can always start a fresh plugin instance as long as you like.
Cheers
Thanks for the feedback. The knob question is new I think. No one has expressed concerns over the up/down + left/right so far. I only use up/down myself and not distracted by left/right also being present. I also often just type the value I need or (depending on the control), just use the keyboard up/down arrows or even mouse wheel. You can also use modifiers in various ways including getting smaller increments and getting the default values fast.Nokenoku wrote: Fri Jul 29, 2022 11:15 am @davidv@plogue

Yeah they will be included in the next bunch of updates. We have preliminary support for CLAP hosting in Bidule too (in latest betas). So we are fully commited.
Cheers
