Yah the world could do without internet for a decade i think. Then people could actually gain practical skills again.
Using an encyclopedia, the yellow pages, and how read newspapers.

One day without would be enough to cause major panic in a lot of people when they realize how dependent they've become.
Including the people who think they want it to go away.

Thank you.

I used an internet free Atari STe, hardware sampler & synths for more than 10 years during the 90's and beyond. Got more music done then than I have in the 15 years since. Did more live stuff too. The internet is mostly a distraction imho.

Well, computer wise I have Arturia's v8 and FX2 collections along with Massive and the Korg legacy collection (plus various free and CM stuff) so as long as they continue to function I'll be okay. I also have my guitars and a couple of hardware synths (Microfreak and Crave) so I can make do with what I have.

But the simplest internet free setup would probably be all hardware instruments, fx, and amps, and the computer mostly for recording, mixing, mastering. This is my ideal but who has the space for so much stuff? My room is a crowded mess as it is...

#1 Bitwig 4.12
+ a handful of trusty FX, synths and libraries and my Tascam DR-100

My all new Dell XPS15 is waiting for me 4000km away and from what it looks like now I won't install everything I have in my arsenal but keep the new system as minimal as possible and OFFLINE

I had an Atari ST (upgraded to 1 MB later), ahh the good old days. :)

Mine is a 4MB STe ... I still have it (+ a couple of spares). The midi timing is spot on.:tu:

Nice! I wish I kept mine. I also had a Megafile 30 HD for it.

Back in the day I had an Atari ST, Master Tracks Pro, DX-21, CZ-101, and a 4-track Portastudio. After a while I also bought an Octapad and kick drum trigger pedal, Alesis D4 drum module, and an Alesis Midiverb 4. At the college I attended back then, they had a studio with a D-50 and Akai S-900 sampler which was pretty cool.

The simplest would be a computer an interface, a mic and just Bitwig, nothing else… Well without internet a vinyl cutter and envelopes with stamps to distribute the results…
Speakers would be nice as well…

Would you be satisfied making music with that? For how long? (According to the post, there would be no updates, mind you. ...even if IMHO that's a silly restriction.) ;)

Post

I only go online with my music machine to download new stuff or upgrades. I wouldn't miss the web too much ... more time for everything else.
(PS: no phone home plugins here except for the Korg Legacy collection)

The Grid delivers enough to invent your own new sounds. Actually I could also live with just Max/MSP, did that already for the two decades before I joined KVR... I forgot of course to mention the LinnStrument as well...
