I agree, Breverb 2 is outstanding and one of the most underrated algorithmic reverbs, I'm not sure why Overloud pays it so little attention in recent years.
Best overall software reverb under $250?

@Jazzguitar - thanks for posting that track! The playing, production and music are so good you could have put a garbage reverb on and it still would have sounded OK.
. Are you triggering the Scarbee libraries from your MIDI guitar? In particular the bass sounds like what a real bassist would do" (I've been playing bass for 35 years in many styles).

@Winstontaneous, thanks for your words. 35 years playing! I guess your bass must have a lot of stories to tell.Winstontaneous wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 4:55 am @Jazzguitar - thanks for posting that track! I really went to great lengths to live up to two of the extraordinary and legendary Scarbee bass and electric piano sampler libraries I used for this track. BTW, some recording studio design engineers have included this song in their reference tracks to test those space acoustic conditions.
Curiously, they are struck by the bass sound and the transparency of the reverberation (BREVERB)
They can't believe I played that solo with a Godin xtSA synth guitar triggering the Scarbee samples!
After recording the bass and make some residual MIDI garbage cleanest, I edited the MIDI articulations of the Scarbee Bass instrument sampler (loaded in Halion) and matched them to my own playing to get the most natural result possible of my 'guitar to bass' performance. It wasn't a problem since besides guitar I also play some real bass and piano/keyboards.

The two I use most often (caveat: non-pro fwiw)
Phoenixverb (bought for 9.99 on sale) - this would be for "regular" reverb
Supermassive (free) - just love this thing. Not sure what its true worth is, but it ain't "free"
Also got R4 at the same time as Phoenix, it was 19 bucks and it gets honorable mention. Next up would be the stock Logic Space Designer probably.
Would something 250 bucks sound a ton better than these? I have my doubts. I don't use these because they were cheap, I just think they sound great. I realize a lot of products aren't just about sound, they have different capabilities, and I'm not the most demanding when it comes to choosing reverb settings. "That sounds good, let's go with that!" That said, I'm sure I'll be keeping an eye on Black Friday sales, because there's always room for more in the herd
I've been kicking around the idea of getting a dedicated plate (perhaps Valhalla, maybe the Abbey Road Waves ones or something else).

Acon Digital Verberate 2. Pretty darn good. Even the Surround version is just €200.
We are so spoiled for choices. I use Valhallam Room, Acon Digital and Stratus in my work. That last one is expensive but has the best preset library and some of the most detailed controls. But it‘s over 250.
I might pick up a plate or spring reverb. They have their own special sound.

A lot of wise words in this post._leras wrote: Thu Oct 28, 2021 1:22 pm You can pretty much get all the the valhalla verbs for under this price.
You can also get some pretty good verbs from waves at $30ish h reverb, plates and chambers plus the convolution verbs.
NI komplete has some great verbs, plus a bunch of interesting verbs in Reaktor.
2C Audio have really fantastic verbs, B2, breeze, really outstanding. Maybe the smoothest reverbs out there if that's what you want.
Eventide also have decent verbs that are on sale at times. Black hole is a a really reverb, but they have others too.
All that said, if you really want the best reverbs I think UAD cannot be beaten. They do not fall on this price bracket though.
I have to say though, there are simply too many options. If just for your own music, picking one or two and sticking with it is maybe the best approach. Don't forget post reverbs FX and eq can make a big difference in shaping the verb sound.
For me I mostly feel I need a good room verb for snares and a bit of the drums, then a slightly larger hall space, and occasionally a super large reverb. And I really don't think it matters much in the end which verb you use
The one exception to this is really vocals, where the reverb can have a drastic effect on the perception of the voice. Even here though, there are tons of examples of big records where the verb sounds like a bathroom or tin can... So maybe even with this no need to worry so much so long as it sits well in the sound of the mix.
Speaking of vocals and Eventide, I really like SP2016 on my own vocals, because of the proximity meter.
I pushed for Neoverb earlier in this thread. It's included in the MPS suite on PB for the Black Friday bundle (and also 78% off until today, Nov 2, runs out). The MPS also includes Nimbus and R4, plus of course Ozone, Nectar, RX, VocalSynth 2 etc.

For under $250, I'd get a number of cheapish but excellent reverbs which will cover you for different requirements (ie, plate and spring; room and hall; lush and spacey; deliberately trashy sounding etc).
Reverbs by Voxengo and Valhalla offer excellent value for money, and you'll be able to get 4 or 5 of these different 'themed' reverbs before your $250 runs out.
In other words, I wouldn't get just one reasonably expensive reverb for $200 - $250.
Cover your bases instead

Exponential Audio is out because iZotope sucks.jamcat wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 11:25 pm Exponential Audio Phoenixverb for natural spaces.
Exponential Audio R2 for classic rack reverb.
Now I’d say Acon Digital Verberate 2 for natural spaces and Relab LX480 Essentials for classic rack reverb.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

I know it's odd, this is a great, flexible, reverb, much better than Softube Tsar for example, but the interface needs updating at the very least.Winstontaneous wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 4:55 am I agree, Breverb 2 is outstanding and one of the most underrated algorithmic reverbs, I'm not sure why Overloud pays it so little attention in recent years.
