Very exciting!! Take your time, I’ll be happy to see it anytime this fall

Urs wrote: Sun Jun 12, 2022 10:14 am It won't be the name of the plug-in format, but the names on a list of supporters.

The STD discussion will die down quickly. And if anyone thinks CLAP is a bad name for a plug-in format, I have a little quote for them:

“Since ancient times, clapping has always been deeply associated with music: From the rhythmic clapping at tribal gatherings or concerts, to the iconic clap sound in drum machines. But the ‘high five’ clap signifying shared achievement, closely related to the handshake signifying agreement or mutual appreciation, is another positive association. And that metaphor transcends the duality between host application and plug-in, which meet as equals in CLAP.”
That's truly a lovely sentiment and very fitting, but as I native English speaker it's hard for me to separate the verbal stimulus of the word from its semantic meaning. But hopefully like you suggested with time that neural pathway will will take a backseat. Anyway, sounds like a lot of cool exciting stuff is going on for you right now and I will be following keenly!
Thank you!

I've expanded on this in a blog post:

https://urs.silvrback.com/clap

It adds a visual dimension, so maybe it helps to overcome painful associations even quicker.

I also think the whole discussion came up because CLAP was mostly an abstract concept to many. This will change very soon, and once it's real I think it will overwrite any negative associations.

As far as CLAP goes, aside from how people might associate the word, I'm just trying to figure out how to refer to them :)

For example, I imagine seeing an article that is called "My favorite CLAP plugins", but then isn't that saying, "Clever Audio Plugin plugins"?

So then to try to avoid the redundancy of "plugin", do we just call them "CLAPs", like "VSTs" or "AUs"?
But then searching for "best claps" will probably not result in plugins that are CLAP. You'll maybe get clap samples.

Just curious, was the extension .CLVR taken?

Post

Calling them plugins is fine, especially when they’re available in multiple formats. I mean, do you say things like “Roundabout is one of my favorite OGG files” or do you call it a song?
I hate signatures too.

Post

Just made a private window in Safari and tried it. a search for "clap" yields nothing plug-in specific, same as "au" and "aax". One needs to add "xxx plugin" or write "clever audio plug-in", "audio unit" or "avid audio extension". So I think CLAP is in good company, SEO-wise. I guess though that any acronym which can be pronounced as word will have this drawback.

Will Zebra 2/HZ be getting the CLAP treatment before they are shelved as legacy products?
Always Read the Manual!

Yes. But there is almost no chance at all they get polyphonic modulation. Like MPE, the effort would be too huge.

That is why we want Z3... Well, for me its the main reason...

Yeah, I hope I can get back on it. I'm trying hard not to become the face of CLAP. So I say what I have to say these days and then I hope I can move on next week, back to code.

They won’t fully get demoted to “legacy products” thankfully as they’ll still be getting updates for new operating systems and all that

Post

Well, they'll be on the back burner, but yes, we intend to continue to port them to whatever is coming, e.g. Win on Arm and stuff, if that's a thing.

Yeah that’s what I meant, no new features or anything but just keeping them up to date on software, which is totally fine with me cause Zebra 3 is all that matters anyways!!

Also I have to ask, will Zebra 3 allow more MSEG points than Zebra 2/HZ? That’s a big one for me

256 (but we'll recommend to keep it below 100 for smooth and glitch-free morphing)
