Sure, if that's how you choose to interpret it. He didn't expect me to give him any money but I did anyway. I don't pay money because a developer has his shit together, I pay money for an instrument I think I will get some use out of and I've alredy got this up and running in a couple of songs to excellent effect. You can pay money now and be using it now or you can pay money in September when you're satisfied the dev has got his shit together. Your choice, no-one's putting a gun to your head.
you have to at least as much as your competitors.
Why? Because you say so? All you have to do is a better job and this, so far, is doing a better job than my other OB emulations. It's also at least half the price of the other OBs I have.
You don’t show up late for a dinner party, show up empty handed and wonder why there’s not a plate of food ready for you.
This is version 2, it's not a new product. v1 was released in 2014 so Aly probably beat everyone else to your dinner party by several years.

I'm on a 14" laptop screen running at 1920x1080. OB-Xtreme's GUI is slightly wider than DUNE running the Default skin size. The knobs on OB-Xtreme are still bigger than DUNE's Huge skin and the text labels are somewhere between the Large and Huge DUNE skins, if that helps.
The filter sounds huge in the demos, the whole thing sounds huge. You can maybe if you stretched logic chalk it up to just distortion algorithms etc. but it's (without playing it) a lot bigger sounding than the OBX from Arturia etc.
Yeah, I've replaced Obsessionn in a couple of songs, both Hard Sync patches, and it sounds so much more alive than Obsession. It also cuts through the mix way, way better.
No weird artifacts on the high end, at least in the demos it's clean.
Even the Hard Sync sounds pristine in the higher octaves. It's really impressive.
It's one guy, the inconsistencies you get with that are IMO still better than the ones you get with IK, NI, iZotope etc. etc. etc... If you want small developers to work on a product you like, you have to feed them.
Exactly! I'm actually quite surprised at the negativity around all these inconsequential things. For $45 I've got two songs sounding better than they ever have so I've got my money's worth out of it already, in one day. By the time the full release rolls around in September, who knows how much more it will have improved my music?
wwjd wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 8:32 pm doesn't sound anything like the real thing.
not even close.
GUI is too fuzzy.
Too much aliasing up above 16k

am I first?? :)
No, mate, not even close. The idiots beat you here by days.
machinesworking wrote: Thu Jul 21, 2022 10:54 pmIt's pretty obviously only using the real thing as a starting point, hence the "Xtreme" moniker.
He's joking, using satire to show the others up for the fools they are. He got you good!

I'm checking out the current youtube vids. Interesting. I don't buy software synths often but I'm thinking about this one. Currently in wait and listen mode. I'm in no hurry. Subscribing to topic.

Some of the replies in this thread are insane. Claiming the develop lost an imaginary sale as a method of projecting your ego on the internet is a new one.

I bought it and reviewed my download so I'll report back on if I like it or not. If I don't like it $50 ain't the end of the world, but I'm assuming I'll find some use for it based on the YouTube demos.

I completely disagree with this, but sound is subjective, so there’s no reason to debate it.

You completely disagree, even though you have never used it. How much do you think that opinion is worth?

Anyway, Aly has put up a video explainer to help guide people through their first encounter. I learned a couple of things I hadn't worked out for myself.

Very good video :tu: I think I understood all of it. The cards are the voices and he explained the macros very well. Nothing ambiguous it seems :) The thing that I missed is in the very end, is the HD Mood is the oversampling? (x2, x4, ...etc)?

I don't think I can wait long! I'm purchasing it next week! The sound is so great with so much details!
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

The cards do at least show you the variation being applied to each card, which might be useful? There might also be more functionality to come for that page?

Here's the second part of Aly's video tutorial -

I got it as an upgrade from V1 for a symbolic 1 euro. Can I complain? No, I suppose. I'm cool! More than gracious.

This synth is PHAT and FONKY and I'm loving all the "Controversy" pads and vintage OB leads. It's good times in here!

Prince left Minneapolis in body, but king James helps to keep his SPIRIT alive!

Thanks Aly for thinking of V1 owners! Did someone question your loyalty out here? I'm cracking up! 1000 light years away from the TRUTH.

Complainers are SAD, honestly. Don't be sad, get this synth and funk out! It's more quality time!

This synth sounds really good from what I can tell from this demos I was not interested in buying a synth but I'll keep an eye on this one for sure.

Aly definitely has some rough edges in the way he conducts his business, but there is no doubt that people complaining on some of this aspects obviously see the talent that he has and they want it to fully fulfill his potencial, I'm one o them.

He also has great taste for developing gear, no doubt about that, i like his product line a lot I just wish he would give that extra 20% to make truly remarkable.

If you are in contact with him send it some positive vibes from my part and tell him to keep workin cause we love his stuff.

Finally had the chance to spend some time with this. First impression is that when you hit a sweetspot, it RIPS. It absolutely slaps.

Second impression is that it's definitely a sweetspot synth, it's not a synth you use for every type of sound, not a jack of all trades. This is fine though, and what I expected. I have way too many synths to need any single synth to do everything for me.

But yeah, this is creating some sounds that I'm just not getting from other VST synths. Easily worth the cash, at least on first impression.

The latest demo made me want the synth. Mainly because it's very heavy and I love the filter distortion. I've more synths than you could shake a stick at, but this one is fat and heavy from the off but YMMV.

The price is good too.

why it's like that starts at 10:36 ;)
Also if you don't use any CARDS deviation for PW it will be a too perfect mix aka 100% harmonic which you might want or not, depends on what you want to achieve.
Hope that helps!
Vortifex wrote: Sat Jul 23, 2022 10:22 am Agreed, it's definitely a flavour synth and not a general workhorse. It has some quirks that bug me a little. The one that bugs me the most is the way it sounds when you select the saw and square on the same oscillator. With PWM fully to the left it cancels out the square and pitches the saw an octave higher until you bring the PWM in, and while sweeping it doesn't sound as you'd expect. To get closer to the sound you'd expect, you have to select saw on one oscillator and square on the other, but again it still sounds different. Not saying it's inherently bad, just that it might not be the sound you want.

Below is an example. First is OB-Xtreme 2 with saw and square on a single oscillator, then it's the Arturia OP-Xa V, then it's OB-Xtreme 2 again but with saw on one oscillator and square on the other:
