At least for those hurried moments as its marketing underlines, plus I might find another uses for it. After all, I love those per track led meters (that I don't own in hardware) and it actually records performances...
However only the MAC logo is shown with OS details, so no Windows functionality?

Mac only! A few months ago I did what you did and checked the site for random sales, it was $9 then too and I was going to buy it before realising it was Mac only.. bummer as looked like a good quick solution.

I noticed Sweetwater has the IK Multimedia T-Racks Tape Machine collection on sale for $29. It's on sale for $99 on IK's site. Are those both really the same product?

Yeah I also missed the May sale as I just recently found out how to integrate trigger in my projects, so it’s a more recent need for me. I also saw that email, guess I just didn’t know what to expect this year since they were recently acquired by Audiotronix. Don’t know if that changes up what their normal sales pattern looks like. Hoping they don’t limit their BF specials to nothing but “all access” or subscription-tailored deals, since I really only need Trigger from them. Fingers crossed

I'm looking for something that will give me a huge drum kit for prog rock/metal, but also have the ability for something more simple.

BFD3 is incredibly detailed and deep sampled. You have the choice of a light (less storage space) or full installation. You can get realistic drums indifferentiable from a live drummer but you must program them (or use existing grooves) which takes skill.

There are complete mixing tools within BFD because you have the full choice of microphone placements. Each kit has its own set of mics, which may be different (e.g., vintage kits have era-appropriate mic configs). Mixing drums is a skill.

With that said, there are preset kits so you don't need to do any of that. Or use them as starting points.
