The bright point for me is the browser. It's a little different but seems very powerful. Maybe even a bit overkill? I guess better to overkill than underkill.
The rest of the features fall squarely into the don't need or care category.
I find it a little silly they do all these new mseg and curves updates but no updates to how to draw automation, when it is one of the weakest parts of Bitwig. Would have been nice to get some more QOL updates too like maybe scale highlighting in piano roll or proper auto save or something like that.

Do you think they'll improve the quality of their FX?

I don’t have an active plan so I can’t test it, but I think project-wide modulators might open up general use cases like VCA fader groups or mass plugin control (on/off, or global gain control to preamp plugins on every channel, for example).
This will benefit even people who don’t generally use modulators.

Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here.

A lot of the FX are superb (all the ones with '+' were redone- delay, chorus, flanger, EQ8 etc) and the convolution reverb is also very good. I don't think any DAW has anything like the Bitwig spectral FX!Korg Supporter wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 5:55 pm Do you think they'll improve the quality of their FX?
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Will I get an upgrade to Bitwig Studio 5.0 for free?
Talking about timing.

Just went through them and I think this really blows open possibilities. It’s even closer to a true modular environment now.

If I understand correctly, modulators can now modulate any parameter anywhere, not just on its own device (or devices farther down its chain). That's pretty great IMHO.
The pop-up editors for Grid data modules are nice -- those were kind of fiddly to edit before. There are a handful of new modules too.

This is HUGE for us who use it live! I can not wait to use these features

It's because you barely need to touch automation or the piano roll if you know what you're doing with Bitwig devices, modulators, and operators. This is what makes Bitwig unique. There are plenty of other solutions out there if you prefer to do things the old-fashioned way.rageix wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 5:54 pm The bright point for me is the browser. Hmm. I just get a splash screen which then disappears and I am left staring at my screen, just expecting something to happen. I am a patient man (which in this specific case, I've ralised was not a good thing), but I certainly got RickRolled here, yet the punchline never materialised. Sad moment.
Reclicked. Reinstalled --> Nada.
On Win11. Moving the folder does nothing. For me BW5 is just a cute bright orange splash screen. I'll wait until the dev team fixes the whole thing as I don't want to tinker with renaming folders and ending up in Bitwig limbo.
In any case, from what I can gather, this update is underwhelming for me:
- MSEGs? Got enough vsts with that functionality. Could be interesting with effects, yet modulation and midi clips do most of what I need.
- Upper level Modulation? If I can modulate tempo, then we got something here. Not in my top 10 "I wants" (I ended using the tempo track to modulate tempo), but could see myself using this if I can randomise LFOs that I can then use to randomise the tempo. Less sad now.
- Performance gestures? Could be interesting to explore but my performance needs are met with clip programming (I need both hands on my guitar anyway and use the launcher to... launch clips).
- New (better) browser? Let's see when I get beyong the splash screen. Already using Sononym for samples and wavetables but would be great to have a robust solution integrated in the workspace.
The question is: where is Midi Capture? Midi Comping? ARA? Audio Quantize? revert bounced audio back to midi? Sample time stretching? Linked clips (changing the parent changes all same clips)? Autosampler for hardware? - did these much needed features get lost on the way to board the new-version-update-tchoo-tchoo-train? Any word on whether they will be implemented soon?

So, with the new clip launching modes. Is there any way to do a simple toggle? Click the clip to launch it, and then click it again to stop it without having to hunt for the track stop button? I did a quick scan of the clip settings, but maybe I missed something. Thanks

A majority were waiting for Classic DAW features updates, and none of it was addressed.
Even if you’re all hyped about how grandiose they integrated the MSEG, you should be also at least a little concerned about Bitwig as a DAW.
