It is factually unrealistic to hope that a software as complex as Bitwig (or any DAW) will work straight out of the box with your computer, your midi setup, your VSTs, your audio card without beta.... There is just way too many cases to test. It is not achievable in a reasonably financially realistic way.
None of that is particularly relevant. Everyone has the choice to ignore the betas, keep working with the previous version, and wait for the official release. Even then, the official release is still a kind of second beta period as a wider group of users inevitably find some new issues. This is how it is and everyone knows it. If someone does not want to have to deal with that, they can wait 6-8 weeks more. By then 5.0.4 or whatever will be out and be solid and ready for getting to it.

I do that with Mac OS versions. I never update when a new version is released. I always wait about 6 months and then update and never have issues because they have all been sorted by then. That is an area I have no interest to participate in the issue resolving process. So I act accordingly.

Well I agree but still find it relevant. When you want to be sure that your specific setup is well recognised, do it when the beta is running, when 100% of the development workforce is focusing on bug hunting.

For macos it is a bit different. Apple have a total control on the ecosystem. So if you are using the OS in a normal way, you have no reason to be part of beta.

If you want to do that, then do that. And if you don't want to, then don't.

It got me to thinking....my BUP which I received with my original purchase is good until July 3rd but if I had paid for a year of BUP I would basically have paid them to beta test and bug hunt their software. That just rubs me the wrong way. As it is I'm watching Bitwig get worse (for me) over time. One usually equates "Update" with progress not regress ....... :?

I don't need modulation toys like MSEGs etc. I just need a solid DAW for composition with a plugin manager that makes it easy to organize, find, and call up the plugins I need. I didn't think that was too much to ask. Apparently I was wrong.

Guess I'm stuck cussing at FL Studio every day for the stupid way it handles Mod Wheel, Pitch Bend, and Aftertouch data..... :bang:
If you don't use all the toys and not into sound design that much, it sounds like you would be better off with Studio One 6 Pro.

Reading the beginning of your sentence, I thought you were about to say Excel instead of SO1 haha.

Yes, agreed. But what I say doesn't contradict what you say or vice versa.

It is like I am saying that it is better to brush your teeth regularly in particular if you eat a lot of sugar. And you are saying yes but it isn't mandatory.

Yes, surely....

So again, if you want to make sure that your voice and your specific complex setup is taken into account by a software vendor, voice it during the beta. If you prefere to take the risk. Don't....

I just happened to be in the shop trying on the spacesuit...

Oooh my favourite, if only life was like Mr Ben. I was led to believe this as a kid, cruel.

Beta 8 not available as a download from the web site yet and still says 7 from within Bitwig...I wonder if they took it down again!

Turns out my upgrade plan expired yesterday (24th) so I am not seeing it and am stuck on Beta 7 which was crashing! I hope I still get the final release when it comes out (like they said) but it seems I can no longer participate in the beta testing :borg:

I don't really get the logic behind locking beta testing to those with active plans. Especially cutting you off in the middle of the beta period. Just sort of weird.

Post

Yup, does seem sort of odd when I want see if bugs I reported are fixed!
When they announced that anyone who had an active plan when 5 was announced would get it I had assumed that would include the betas but as (I assume) it’s an automated system they probably have no control over it…makes me wonder how they will ‘look back’ and see who was active when it was first released as that seems like a long time ago!
