Everything I like is useful. Everything I don't like is bloat. My opinion is the objective truth and applies to everyone.

I wouldn't bother. The only ppl moaning are ppl who are never going to buy it anyway. Its aimed at a group of ppl that actually make music.

Remember, everything is expensive if you are poor
How original

i am waiting for the official release, and some (non-hysterical) youtube videos, plus reviews from my trusted music sites (whatever that is)... really, will prob just dive in, it's impressive in so many ways, and i like the idea of one architecture; get this, when i try to apply parameters i use in one plugin to a different plugin, and nothing (good) happens...

I'm glad they opted for a wise function that analyzes the timbre, mood and style of the sound to mutate instead of a complete random sound generator like most other synths have, which 95% of the time produces garbage. This Mutate thing will be crazy to generate all sorts of complementary sounds aligned with the same desired tone.

*It's bloated without real ways to streamline it.
One of the features of this update is the ability to hide presets.
When I used to own Omnisphere, I tried various ways to remove the entire EDM library, but it kept being repopulated, for whatever reason.

Let´s talk in some more practical detail about what happens really when one installs Omni 3.

If I already have Omni 2 on the computer and make an install of Omni 3 on top of that:
Will all my old presets be moved to a Legacy map? My preset ratings will be saved?

New install:
At the moment I am migrating to a new mac anyway. I was about to install Omni 2 on my new computer. But perhaps it´s better to wait for the new Omni 3 version? Pros and cons for this?

Thanks

That's the way it's been presented in the videos

After watching his Omnisphere 3 videos I wonder if maybe Eric has a new style guru

Are you safe?

Omnisphere 3 is completely backwards compatible also with your old projects. You might think ok they remastered a lot of these patches so will they sound different? But when you load an old project it will load the old settings.

I don't do EDM either, but the Radiotone Melodies patch is so beautiful.

RE: Omni as Bloat and (useless) Concept - I do a sort of Radioheadish hybrid music. I do not do ambient/cinematic or any other the other styles some claim that is the only thing Omni can do. I used to be a guitar oriented folky/Springsteen type of guy. Still am in some ways, but Omni completely changed how I make music. The instrument is endlessly inspiring. I use all of its functions except the Multis because I am only using it in a DAW so never had the need to use it that way. Omni has allowed me to make music that I feel is truly an expression of who I am as a musician. It's so-called bloat has led me to numerous unexpected places because I willing to let go of the guitar/bass/drums paradigm. I can type in "loneliness" and be rewarded with a number of potential sounds. Or "space" and get some ethereal pads. Just looking at the names of the patches gives me a good ides of what they will sound like. I don't know of any other synth that can do that. I love the pictures. Again, they are inspiring as it is useful to know what is making the sound. It sets off associations in my mind about other sounds I might want to try.

Omni is by far my most used synth. It's not even close. I have demoed all the major synths. I bought and sold Pigments twice. Had all the UHE synths. Sold. Serum etc - demoed them all. Massive X is the only other synth I use to any degree.

The ease with which I can create my own patches is Omni is second to none. Pigments comes close, but the sound...nope. I don't need 3D wavetable graphics or drag and drop modulation. Do not miss them at all.

And oh yeah, while Legitimization from an Authority is a logical fallacy, it's worth noting that Finneas, brother of Billie Eilish, who produced her mildly successful debut, used Omni all over that record. Said it was his favourite VST by far. Pretty good for a lame concept that has no practical application.

I wonder what the installation does with the old samples though. Since it's now going to use lossless compression which shrinks the existing library, would it just replace the old data files for the factory library?

Ha! This is the first thing I thought. Who did it first though? :hyper:

Seriously though some infectious energy, happy to see it!
