The Dark Zebra Zebra Legacy (Zebra2)

Post

Is this how Zebra3 alternatively can be set up to make a sequencer (both mono- and polyphonic) with 8th notes?:
Set up an LFO with a saw wave with 8th notes triggered with gate -> Use the LFO to trigger the next step in a Mapper -> Use the Mapper to trigger the amp envelope and an envelope modulation a filter cut off freq. And there you have it? And I guess you can further use the same mapper just as the "ArpMod" in Zebra 2 and Hive by adjusting the step values?

Post

This is indeed one way this works on voice level.

Because the question about a built-in sequencer comes up often, I'm itching to do a video with a drum loop patch, where I'd dissect the parts and the mechanics behind it.

Post

Great! Then the mapper will cover a lot of ground. I'm sure it's been asked before, but can the mapper further trigger the next key entered in a chord on the midi keyboard, so it works like an arpeggiator? A video with drum loops, arps, sequences etc. showcasing the mapper's versatility would be very welcomed :)

That would be awesome. I'd be equally interested in the synthesis part.

One could put together something with up to 4 notes held this way, but that is honestly not really such a good idea. Needs four oscillators pitched after lowest, highest etc. notes and iterate through them... too tedious for such a standard thing.

-> but not invalid as a patch idea because one can also crossfade or vector-blend through those different notes... maybe worth a tutorial, too <-

Anyhow, we do have a set of really good initial ideas for a combo of actual arpeggiator and sequencer though, and I'm sure we'll add those later on.

Post

Hehehe, I just tried that and it worked. Even across multiple octaves, up/down, reverse or pretty much any pattern...

Post

Maybe better to just use the MIDI FX arpeggiator in Logic Pro and the equivalent in other DAWs if there's need for it. Or draw in the notes by semitones in the mapper - that might also be fun. Regardless of the initial lack of seq/arp, Zebra3 will slay (as the youths would say)

1. Do I need a new serial if Zebra3 comes out ?
You will automatically have a new license in your account. It will be available via My Licenses on our website soon, maybe a week or two before we start public beta.

It won't be just a serial though, we're switching to license files instead, similar to how Plogue do this. I'll start an extra thread about it before these licenses become available. It's huge step forward to make things even easier than serial numbers.
2. Will it be possible to load complete Hive 1.2 and Hive 2 wavetables ?
As of now, the oscillators only have the spline based waveform generation as seen in Zebralette 3.

I currently don't feel that it needs more than that.

(I recommend listening to all these wonderful entries in the One Synth Challenge last month... I mean, all of this is coming out of a single Zebra 3 oscillator. This goes way beyond "wavetable", it is its own thing)
So are you referring to keyfiles? My only real concern, is that I can take a u-he install package from a backup drive, and use the "license file" to activate my plugin onto a new computer without the plugin ever having to be reliant upon calling home to U-he. I'm not a big fan of challenge/response copy protection or ILock or any of those other methods that punish the honest. That's one of the things I've loved about U-he products. Could you speak more about this? Will this "license file"/plugin combo be using challenge response?
Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

You can store the license file in a password manager or on a USB drive. There's no calling home involved, so it has nothing to do with Challenge/Response or computer activations whatsoever.

Like Plogue do, the license file is actually a PNG image that tells you what's on it and who it's licensed to.

(in other words, we're not switching to any form of intrusive copy protection, but those license files will make installation much easier - no more typing or copy/paste of names and serials-, and help with customer support, help automate license transfers, and Zebra 3 will even create the old style serial files for all the other u-he plug-ins you have.)

So Zebra 3 will become the u-he hub now. Please, unlock a Zebra filter in DIVA as a gimmick, too. Joking. Nobody wants to reply to the mails following THAT revelation :D

You are so right !!!
I also hate any kind of dongles and it was a big challange to get my virtual studio free from any of this dongle shit !!!
There are a lot companies which died in last 20 years and I am happy that i have now this system even with good "old vstis" which no more need any dongle.
But to be clear: every good software has to be paid and that's o.k.

Thanks for the answer.

I will of course test Zebra 3 if i get some exceptional sounds out of it. If so then I will use it further, no question.
