Thank you for your comprehensive answer.
1: they overlap. Can you point to a specific use case when that would be useful to have?
It would be very, very handy for managing big sample libraries where duplicate samples can occur without noticing. Having samples overlapping means they are 100% the same, so instead of being able to do "nothing" with such useful information, it would be great to make the user able to do something (like deliberately do nothing, or delete some duplicates, or merge some folders, etc).
Having less duplicates means more HD space, less time spent browsing, etc. so it's very useful to be able to do some house cleaning.
2: you can currently use F while hovering over a sample (or having a multi-selection) to put it to "Favourites" - having a pool would duplicate the functionality, so either extending the "Favourites" to be able to reorder, or switching to the pool solution - I'd be inclined to the first, otherwise it would mean a significant code rewrite. What musical background do you come from? I'm trying to keep Mini as lightweight as possible, so I'm carefully considering every feature addition.
To me, having a temporary pool where you put things next to you in order to be able to use it a bit later in your session is very, very different from having several favorites folders in a huge database.
For instance, the typical use of favorites folders would be to mark the folders I am using very often (like "my own samples", which can contain dozens of thousands of samples, and also "analog drums", with also dozens of thousands samples, along with "acoustic drums", "field recordings, etc). It makes the usual workflow faster, because the banks you're using are just one click away.
Now, what would be a "session pool"? Let's say I want to make an hybrid electronic drumkit to load into my favourite drumsampler. I will browse along hundreds of kick drum samples, and may want to keep 5 or 6 next to me, as a "it may be used in 5 minutes ,let's keep it here for later". Then, I will browse some 808 snares, some Simmons sounds, try to find suitable Lindrumm snares, make a selection, and put what I picked in that "session pool", along with the kick drum samples I picked a bit earlier. I know I won't need 5 bass drums and 5 snares drums, but having a small first selection is very handy when crafting a whole kit. And a "session pool" makes such thing very, very much easier
3: Not in this version, but I've been considering resampling into buffers as users play, which worked on unreleased standalone version and I found using before for sure.
Thank you for considering it :tu:
That's a good thing to have, sometimes pitching a sample and tweaking its envelope can make a great difference, and it would be nice to be able to save it as a new sample.

Being able to just play and enjoy music without having to think about hacky solutions to problems is something I'm certainly for :tu:

Thank you! I put in the long hours and the DnD is now working for linux (both Bitwig and non-Bitwig). It took a bit of work, but so far I checked with Bitwig and Reaper and it works just fine.

That makes sense. Get ready for 1.2.0 ;)
True Duplicates is useful now that I implemented it, and I see the need for it. I found this way that I had over 11GB of duplicate samples!
I also added Timbral Duplicates option - this is useful when two samples sound nearly identical but there are waveform differences (phase, loudness, cut differently). True Duplicates is obviously a subset of Timbral Duplicates, so you can mute True Duplicates, solo Timbral Duplicates and you get similarly grouped samples. Upon deletion, it moves the samples to system bin, so they should be recoverable if needed.

Big news again! 1.2.0 is out.
- DnD finally addressed for linux users
- Many, many UI updates, icons, refinements
- Sample duplicates (checking hash) S/M/x/Del (move to trash)
- Timbral duplicates (close to each other on all the characteristics) S/M/x/Del (move to trash)
- Added CC4 for group selection (0 = all groups deselected, 1 = first group soloed)
- Group selection via Ctrl + 0-9
- Velocity slider, and samples now respond to MIDI velocity
- More compatibility fixes
- Sample pool to make own groups of samples before being dragged to folders/DAW

Two days ago I hooked Mini to m5StickC gyro that tracked rotation of my hand and was able to "paint" via hand gestures wirelessly, even outside of the room. Absolutely wild.

Oh nice updates, enjoying using this. cheers

This is very cool and exactly what I've wanted for a long time. I'm trying the demo in Logic, but it appears that DnD is disabled in demo mode? Also, clicking the link to buy it from the plugin interface takes me to a 404 Not Found page.

If you are referring to the 9-dot DnD icon, that is done now as well, download the file again :tu:

Just installed v1.2.0 and drag/drop is working perfectly now. New UI looks great!

Good to hear, thank you! Spent a lot of time tinkering with it, so I'm glad people like it.

Picked this up today, great stuff! :tu:

Does this cluster similar samples together so that e.g. there’s a cluster of similar hi hats, in the same way as XO etc do? I’m not super clear on which X/Y axis settings would achieve this and it’s hard to tell with only 50 in the demo

It does not, there is such grouping mechanism in the works, but the X/Y has been there since the inception of the plugin given how it lets you choose your own parameters which are used to display the samples (e.g. brightness on X means that samples to the left have prominent lower frequencies and samples to the right have prominent treble). The grouping you mentioned is basically a reduction of multidimensional data onto a 2D plane (it can tell you that sample A and sample B are similar, but not necessarily "why").

Thanks! This looks neat and cool to hear you are working on that, so I’ll pick it up. I like that you just focus on browsing rather than also being a drum machine etc.

Nice!

I also have a version in the works that handles 10x more samples :)
