Just copy the key, add _V2 to the old dll/key - and you're good to go ! :)
That will work in some hosts but not all. It depends how the host recognises the plugin.

All VST plugins have a unique ID number and renaming a plugin doesn't change it's ID number. If your host uses this ID number to recognise plugins it will find 2 plugins with identical ID numbers. When you try to reload old projects, the host either won't know which to load or could potentially load the wrong one.

Cool, slowly downloading now.

Latency on Barricade is lower, cool, but unless it's super low I don't see the need for that, unless it benefits the functionality/sound.

Hm, the updates are nice for sure, but removing 6 plugins completey? Wow, that's weird. Does anybody have download links to the last 2.x release (2.9.1?). I'd like to keep a copy of Ferox and Module.

Post

What happened to the Track Essentials? Half of the plugins disappeared in a black hole? :-o :o

It's sad that there is no real successor for RedPhat Pro. It's so great, and much better than the BusCompressor. If there would be an improved version of RedPhat Pro, I'd jump all around the block... :D

My guess is that he wants to build/replace the retired plugs with brand new one.

Maybe the code for the plugs was very different and/or not worth time/updating.

Good for me I didn't use the retired ones but I feel for the ones that did, kinda wrong move there, I would have been disappointed as well. :?

You can just use a Wrapper/Chainer to get over any version conflicts.

I think it's refreshing to see a developer who's not afraid to streamline rather than pull a cakewalk.

Are there any significant bugs in the dropped plugins? I use most of them and haven't found any.
I miss MindPrint. My TRIO needs a big brother.

I'm sure half of you don't even make the most cursory of checks before posting here with your tales of woe and "missing" plugins. It took me all of 3 seconds to find all the "missing" plugins: Toneboosters Legacy Plugins Page

They all still work just like they did before v3, they just aren't being updated, so nobody has lost anything.

Jeroen has clearly just decided to concentrate on other plugins. Four of them were just gimmicks or proofs of concept based on the other plugins. They were never supposed to be considered long term products (EZComp, EZQ, Omnisone, IsoneSurround).

HumRemover works just fine and already does everything it needs to, so there's little point developing it further.

Module is the only one that I'm slightly surprised hasn't been carried over but the v2 version works fine so it doesn't matter. Plus, if it ever breaks, it's not like there aren't loads of great delays out there, module was never really a standout plugin in the field.

Time to chime in I suppose...

On backward compatibility: I know, this is somewhat messy, in part due to different hosts dealing with unique plugin IDs in a different way. In any case, if you experience problems, or do not like the updated versions, v2.9.1 downloads are still available on the website.

On 'missing' plugins; the v2.9.1 downloads are still available; a couple of plugins are just taken out of the webshop and are not updated to v3.0 but if you bought them previously, you can still download and use them with your existing registrations. If there is strong demand to update some of these plugins (for example Module), just chime in. If it is just a handful of people it is probably not worth the effort, but if there are many that would like to see one of them to be included in version 3.something, just let me know.

On Barricade / multiband limiting: the auto-saturation feature of Barricade was based on multi-band processing since one of its initial releases. The change in v3.0 is that a significant amount of harmonic distortion associated with saturation has been removed to reduce the sometimes somewhat harsh character, and therefore multiband limiting is now just a better term of the process than auto-saturation, although is it somewhat of a gray area, and the basic principles of the new 'multiband' mode are just the same as the earlier 'auto saturation' process.

I can at least give some insight on the XYTool plugin.

I talked to Jeroen about a possible continuation of the concept and include different microphne positions as well (AB, M/S, Jecklin, ORTF, etc). The ideas were accepted, but we failed to find a possible solution since some "design ideas" are patented and would have caused a lot of trouble.

I still hope a revival with the v3 engine. But it looks like barely any person bought this particular plugin, or even used it.

Then again, now that we're on v3.x (which is hopefully a new framework), I hope certain ideas that were thought through for EBU Loudness/Compact will be ported in the near future.

Furthermore, FEROX is somewhat the "original concept" of TB ReelBus. I am a bit sad about Omnisone, but there are other speaker-to-headphone similators out there.

Whether or not Barricade is usable to you with the latency, is a whole different issue. Barricade was designed to work as mastering limiter. Not as channel/track limiter while mixing. I actually like the idea to finally show look ahead in MS, and since I never used the "auto saturation", I don't run into troubles regarding multiband limiting. Especially since I adapted the EBU-128/K-System v2 meter while mastering music.

But regarding latency again - if you used Wavelab or a host with good PDC, no issues. Else, I still don't recommend using it during tracking and mixing.

Have to snag the updates myself. But I like the fact that the development doesn't stand still.

Jeroen - it would be great to push the retired plugins on v2.9.2, to at least update their GUIs with those sexy looking new knobs! :)

Any chance of a revival (i. e. commercial version) of Red Phat Pro? It's still one of my favorites...

What I meant w/latency was does the current change affect sound? I know it's not meant for realtime use.

In theory, it should not. (haven't tested it yet, can't tell)

In understand the move to actually "lock" the latency. While testing Barricade updates for Jeroen, we encountered some strange behavior with hosts that could not adapt latency automatically. So if it's fixed latency now, it should solve a lot of issues.

Hi Jeroen,

thanks for clarifying, just one question to be sure: can the new versions sound different in existing projects only because of the new automation and controller handling, as you wrote on your site? (Then I would be relatively safe, I think). Or has the internal sound processing changed?
Else I couldn't help noticing that you upped your prices a notch, which makes them still so much more affordable than most of the rest :)
Looking forward to the new shelving filters in Equalizer, which is my absolute go-to EQ!

Oh, and I never considered TB's GUIs as "shareware"-alike or old-fashioned, I think they are some of the best-designed Interfaces out there, especially functionality- and workflow-wise. Glad to see you resisted from changing them too much!
