whats the probability that this stuff will be free eventually. I paid for Trash2, I paid for Iris2, maybe we see Excalibur or PhoenixVerb free soon? I mean Izotope seems to enjoy to give their products away for little to nothing lately.
I wouldn’t bet against it or be the least bit surprised if Excalibur or PhoenixVerb were offered as freebies (with purchase?) at PB.

I already bought both of them months ago for $10 USD each and have no regrets. I paid $29 USD for Trash 2, as well, but that was over 4 years ago.

It seems iZotope has been successful with their “first taste is free” (or cheap) promotions. The few complaints I see about them are usually about their upgrade prices.

I won’t argue that, but as a customer for years, I don’t have any buyer’s remorse.
It's all about the flagships. Get something like Iris 2 for free, and they get the email address and you get their installer, which has a "look at what you could have won" feel to it. So they get customers who are committed up to a point.

Then offer those new leads a discounted or free Elements - I expect they see lots of conversions into upgrades. The balance of price and volume must work for them.

Obviously it helps to have a product line with a good reputation. And the iZ blog posts / tutorials are also very good marketing.

Like one local seller advertises "black friday offers every week for the whole month!". I find it somehow disgusting.
The reality is many stores lose money or just break even all year long and then make it all back at the end of the year. To extrapolate it further, if we didn't do well during Black Friday, we'd have to raise prices the rest of the year.

I understand that. I just don't buy that one day buying fest, stretched to a whole month. Christmas is for that :D
Not to mention that now is 11.11. that is the biggest buy fest in asia. Then we have black friday that is the biggest buy fest in the USA. Europe is between those two and have to suffer both buy fests

There will still be a ton of sales in December as well.

...or there's the Waves sales model where every day is a sale! :hihi:

Any views on Mastering the Mix REFERENCE 2? Or there are better alternatives?

I do not have any mix reference software yet, so some advice would be helpful.

I always get a good laugh when someone asks advice on Waves plug-ins and notices they are on sale so': ''now would be a good time to buy''

I have used Reference 1 quite a bit. But it got basically replaced entirely by Metric AB, which can be had for the typical PA $29 quite often. I have not explored Reference 2 yet, however there seem to be some interesting features so might be worth to compare those two.

I wonder if there will be a sale on Sampletank 4 for the holidays, maybe in December? I see a new sale IK just started but it's not included.

Okay, thanks for the suggestion. So, looks like one of these two will be sufficient for referencing purposes. I have heard of some other names, but would like to keep my options limited to 2 or 3 so that it is easy to compare and finalize.

I will consider demoing Reference 2 and Metric AB. :tu:

EDIT: any idea if Mastering the Mix allows license transfer of Reference and if so are there any fees involved?

I contacted them with that question in the past and this was the reply:
You are able to disable your license activations for use on someone else's machine. However, transferring a license will void access to support for the new owner. There aren’t currently transfer fees.

Good to know that, although their words are a bit shady.
Thanks again, appreciate it. :)

Yeah, this didn't leave the best impression with me either. But aside from the wishy washy transfer policy, Tom from Mastering the Mix is very responsive and has always answered to my mails super fast...

Is Metric AB purely most useful for comparisons, or does it provide metering on its own as well? (I already have Hawkeye SPL, and generally find with these plugins that you need to use them for well beyond the demo period to actually realise what utility they provide).
