G-Sonique has announced the release of Alien 4D, describing it as a "binaural topology acid synthesizer".
While traditional acid synthesizers are typically monophonic or standard stereo, the Alien 4D utilizes a specialized internal "binaural topology". This system emulates analog binaural circuits and DSP chips to create a three-dimensional soundstage, allowing the user to position sound within a 3D/4D space using standard speakers or headphones.
The technology is based on psychoacoustic principles, simulating how the human brain perceives sound directionality through time shifts, phase differences, and frequency distortions. This approach aims to move beyond "flat" 2D sound, offering a more organic and spatial experience without the use of traditional reverb.
Marian, DSP coder and researcher at G-Sonique, explains:
Almost all synthesizers, whether analog or digital, are mono—left and right channels are the same until you use effects. We tried a completely new concept. There is a possibility to make a spatial, almost 4D sound, the so-called binaural sound, where you feel that the sound is located in an exact place in space. This effect can be achieved with special digital technologies but also with the help of analog circuits. We combined the emulation of both digital and analog approaches to create different circuits and modules.
We applied this new concept to our first and very popular Alien 303 synthesizer. We love acid, rave, and psytrance leads, but it's a new millennium and people want to hear something different. Alien 4D Binaural Topology brings a completely different type of sound—spatial, organic, and harmonically rich. A single acid line can now fill the entire space.
In addition to its spatial capabilities, Alien 4D is a comprehensive synthesizer featuring 9 filter types, 14 oscillators, and a dedicated binaural control section with dual filters for frequency-shaping the spatial image.
Main Features:
- Oscillator Section: 14 waveforms including An.Saw, D.Saw, Saw HB, Saw DB, An.Ramp, D.Ramp, D.Square, Square, Pulse, Multipulse 1-2, Multisaw 1-2, and Vintage Saw.
- Oscillator Modes: Selectable Analog or Digital (Normal) modes.
- 9 Filter Types: Including G-Low pass, Vintage analog low pass, 303 Low pass, G-High pass, Bandpass, and Peaking filters.
- Binaural Topology / 4D Sound Control: Dedicated parameters for 3D Stereo, Alien Space, 3D Circuitry, and dual spatial filters (Frequency/Q) to manipulate the psychoacoustic image.
- Envelopes & FX: Amp and Filter envelopes, Unison/Chorus effect, and a Ping-pong delay.
- Preset Library: 31 presets designed for Acid, Rave, Techno, Psytrance, and various EDM styles.
